We are planning an "Earn Your Dinner" (it may turn into an "Earn Your Dessert") evening along the box social idea, but with a definite twist.

The girls will bring a dinner (or dessert if we decide to keep it simple). They will decorate brown paper bags and put their food in it.

Meanwhile, the boys will go on a canned food drive for an hour. When they come back, they will use the food they collected to bid for the paper sacks. They can look and smell the sacks, but not lift them. The girls names will not be on the sacks--it will be anonymous.

The boys will eat with the girl whose sack they "purchased" and the canned food will be donated to a local food bank.

Our ward did a similar activity recently.  The Priest quorum was in charge - They asked all of the YW to bring a meal for 2 & the YM brought a blanket & drink for 2. The YW leaders provided ice-cream sundae makings for everyone for dessert. The YW mostly took pasta type dishes- spaghetti, lasagna, bow tie, & one girl purchased some Burger King. The YW were not asked to decorate a box or anything like that. The YM shot baskets and as soon as they made a basket they went to a line. When all of the YM were lined up then they chose a YW name from a can of folded names of girls that were actually there. It was a nice, noncompetitive, "round about way" to get them into couples.

A fun game that we played was "What Qualities are You Looking for in a Wife or Husband Bingo".    I believe that our YM Pres. kind of came up with this idea. It was fun even for our younger Beehives & Deacons.

The Bingo card consists of 4 empty squares down & 4 empty squares across on letter size paper (81/2 - 11). A small place at the bottom of the paper for their name to be written on. I wish that I had one to scan & show you, but they were pretty simple, so I hope that you can picture it from this description.

To play- Everyone (Leaders included) went to others and asked them what qualities they were looking for in a wife or husband. Then write the quality or qualities in the empty squares and also write the persons name that said that quality or qualities. ( some said more that one quality, which was great, just write small and fit it into one square so that there is one square per person). After all of the squares are filled with qualities and names (this seemed to take our group about 20 min.) then each person writes their name on the bottom of the paper & tears it off. Then their name goes into a container of some sort to be pulled out one at a time. So when the name is called everyone crosses that square off on their Bingo card. When the first person gets 4 in a row crossed off then they stand and read the four qualities that were written on those squares.  We kept playing for awhile, so there were many winners & we had the chance to hear what everyone said. It was a great reminder to all about the most important qualities in our lives.  I hope that you can get somewhat of a picture of this game & I'm sure that you can think of some improvements too.
