is what I've gathered, good luck! *G*
You pair up the girls with someone they normally wouldn't hang out with. Then, you give
them each several pieces of paper and a marker. First, you ask them to answer some
questions about themselves and write the answers really big (one answer on each paper).
Keep them in order. Then, you ask their partner to guess what the other one put as their
answer (kind of like in the newlywed game). Some of the questions we asked were:
1. What's your favorite color?
2. Who's your favorite scripture hero?
3. What's your favorite food?
4. What's your favorite subject in school?
5. Who's your favorite singer/band?
6. What's your favorite dessert?
Another thing we did (to get them laughing, too) was a water balloon toss and an egg toss.
(We boiled the eggs ahead of time, but they didn't know this D. The object is to see which
team can toss the item the farthest without it dropping. We were laughing so hard during
this!
Another thing you can do is pass around a bag of M&M's or Skittles and tell each girl
to grab at least 5 or 6 of them. They can take as many as they want, though. Then, after
they all have their candies, you put up a sign with a question corresponding to each candy
color. Each girl has to take turns answering one of the questions from the list according
to what color candy they have. 0 hope this makes sensed For example, your chart would say
Red=Tell us about an embarrassing moment.
Green=What's your favorite holiday and why?
Yellow=What's your dream vacation? Orange=Tell us about someone you admire.
Etc., etc. You can use any questions you want. The idea is
to get the girls to talk about themselves! The more candies they have, the more they have
to talk! You can use fewer candies depending on how many girls you have, or you can break
up into groups to do this.
Fruit Basket- You have everyone sit in a circle of chairs. One person is "it"
and has a rolled up newspaper or a pompom or something soft to swat with. Before you
start, everyone decides on a fruit they want to be. (or whatever category you decide to
pick. I've done states, colors, fruits, veggies, sports, etc.)
No 2 can be the same. Then whoever is "it" yells
out a fruit (or whatever) and that person has to stand up and call out another one before
the "it" person swats them SOFTLY on the head. R can be hiladoius sometimes,
especially when you use easy things like apple, banana, orange, etc.
Pass around a roll of toilet paper. Everyone tears off as much as they 'use'. Then for
every square they have to tell something about themselves. This is great because
people don't know what your about to do. Some have much to tell
Draw It Out - everyone picks a name from a hat, of some who is at the party and tells no
one. Then they have to draw something about the person that will help others guess who it
is. Can be hysterical.
To Tell the Truth - Everyone writes down on a slip of paper a few words describing a
unique experience they had or something funny that happened to them that no one there
knows about and also their names. Then you choose a slip of paper and call up that girl
plus two others to sit in the front of the room. You let each girl read the paper to
herself. The three of them tell a story as if the paper was theirs. The other girls have
to guess who is telling the truth. Each person makes three statements about themselves. 2
statements are true, 1 is a lie. This is very fun because many people have done things
that sound untrue. Everyone tries to guess. Very fun.
Most Embarrassing Moments - all guests write their most embarrassing moments and put into
hat. Pass hat around have people read different ones and try to guess who it is.
Put names of famous people (prophets, scriptural characters ) on 3 by 5 cards. Put one on
each person's back...they have to get hints about who they are by only asking
"yes" or "no" questions.
A fun game that we played at our last High Priest social was a name game. We made a list
of all the last names of High Priests and had the men fill in the blanks for the wives
names. The one with the least answers won a can of prunes. It was a great ice breaker and
a wonderful get to know you for the new members in the ward.
PHYSICAL GAMES
1. The Friendship Game - Everyone stands in a circle and just grabs someone's hand. You
will end up holding hands with two different people. Then the circle must be untangled
with no break in the hands. Very fun.
2. I Have NEVER - everyone is seated and one person standing, but there is no seat for
them. The person standing says, (for example) "I have NEVER been to Salt Lake
City". Only those who have never been to SLC can remain sitting. Everyone else must
find a seat ;o) the person left standing is 'it' and the game continues, with the person
who is 'it' making another 'I have never' statement.
3. The Blanket Game - divide group into 2 teams. Have each team gather on their own
blanket. They must, as a team, turn the blanket over without touching the floor, if they
touch the floor they must straighten out the blanket and start over. The first team to
accomplish this wins. Size of blanket depends on size of group. If it's a smaller group
use crib blankets.....
4. Do You Love Your Neighbor? Everyone sits in a circle except for whoever is
"it". The stand in the center and will ask one person the question, "Do you
love your neighbor?" Most of the time the person will say no, and then they will
follow with, but I do love people who........ and put in something like majoring in
science... Then everyone who is 'majoring in science' has to jump up and change seats.
This also gives the person who is "it" an opportunity to sit down. Whoever is
left in the middle becomes the next "it" The person being asked also has the
option of saying "Yes, I do love my neighbor" and then the two people sitting on
either side of that person have to trade seats without the person in the middle of the
group taking one of their seats.
BRAINY STUFF
Situation Mysteries - You give evidence of a crime that is left in a room. By asking a
series of yes and no questions in turn, individuals determine the crime and why. The first
person to unravel the mystery wins. Examples: Mary is lying dead on the floor. The window
is open with the curtain blowing in the breeze. There is broken glass and water on the
floor. What happened to Mary?
(Mary is a fish--wind blew curtain, curtain knocked over fish bowl, Mary died out of
water...)
There is a man lying face down in the desert. There are no tracks in the sand---what
happened to the man?
(Man has a backpack on, it is an unopened parachute, thus he's lying there with no tracks)
A man is found lying on the floor. Evidence also found in the room: Wood shavings,
glasses, gun, and a cane. What happened?
(the man who shot himself, was a blind midget and a performer in a circus. someone shaved
his cane so he thought he was getting taller. Depressed, at the possible loss of his
career, he killed himself.)
A man is being tried for a heinous crime that will put him away for life....it's a very
controversial but well proven case. The brother to
the man on trail testified that his brother had committed the crime...the judge declares
he must free the guilty party because he cannot sentence the guilty party without also
sentencing an innocent man---how is that possible?
(Siamese twins)
Say this "There is an object: The builder sells it, the buyer never uses it, the user
never sees it---what is it?"
(a coffin)
3. Psychiatrist A - One person leaves the room and everyone else comes up with a theme.
For example, Disney characters. Then everyone assumes an identity of a Disney character.
(Snow White, Simba, ect..) The person comes back and begins to question the 'patients' to
figure out their 'problem.' Each person has to answer the questions according to their
identity. Lots of variation here and can be done over and over. possible themes; Food
items, items in the room, things on the beach, movies, action figures, people from
the scriptures.
4. Psychiatrist B - A little variant from A. In stead of assuming different identities you
all work under the same theme. For example everyone must answer their questions in song
titles. Or maybe every answer has to start with the first letter of their name.
5. Psychiatrist C - As a group you pick a pattern the doctor has to figure out. For
instance, you answer the questions he asks for the person next to the person to your
right. If he says what color are your eyes? Then you answer brown if their eyes are brown,
even if yours are blue.
6. Writers Anonymous - divide into groups. every groups gets a bag of 'items'. For
example; a mushroom, a fruit loop, and a red pencil.
(Every group gets something different) they then write a poem story or song about the
items. If it is a birthday party, have the poem center around the birthday person,
including items, and let them keep the written 'creation'.
7. Detective - (if the name of this game offends you I apologize, just change all the
names to something else )
Preparation - if you have a group of say....16 people, the ratio of players would be about
like this; 4 mafia members, 4 detectives, 7 civilians, 1 mediator (always only 1 mediator,
no matter how large the group). If you have a larger or smaller group adjust the numbers
accordingly. so put 4 mafia, 4 detectives, 7 civilians, and 1 mediator in a hat or bowl.
people draw who they are and don't tell anyone.
All are in the same room sitting where they can see each other. The mediator has everyone
bow their heads and close their eyes. he then says,
'Mafia - heads up.' the mafia members look up and see who each other are. The narrator
then says - Who do you want to kill? (Its only a game heh, heh) They silently decide by
pointing at someone who's head is down (it will be a detective or civilian), no speaking.
then the mediator says, Mafia - heads down, and
Detectives - heads up'. they look around to see who each other are. Then the Mediator
says, 'Who do you think is a mafia member?' The Detectives silently decide who it is by
pointing also. When they are finished the mediator says - 'Everyone, heads up'.
The civilians do not get to see who any of these people are. It is now time for 'town
meeting'. the Mediator now tells a made up
story of the killing, for ex. "a man was gunned down coming out of Antonios Pizzaria
last night at 3 a.m. his name was....then he tells the name of the person the Mafia
killed. This person is out of the game and tells everyone what he was.. Then the Mediator
tells of a person who was hung as a mafia member and names the person that the Detectives
hung. Both people who are killed tell what they were. ( ie..mafia, detective or civilian)
you lose 2 people every round because they are killed off. As the game goes on the process
get more intense. Then its heads down again and the process is repeated. the game ends
when either all the mafia are killed, or there is no one left to kill them ---you can tell
when its over.
8. Play Jeopardy! Divide a sheet of paper into 25 squares (5x5) and write questions in
each square. Each column is a category (like...prophets, scriptures, church history,
hymns, callings, word of wisdom, etc.) Make the questions go from top to bottom, simple to
hard. To play, divide into 2 or 3 teams. Each team chooses a question..."I'll take
prophets for 40" (The values are 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50...the harder, the more
points...make sense?) You may want to make a master board on a chalkboard, or marker
board, or poster board...or just make 25 card, and lay them out on the floor. Anyway, it's
fun to play. Most points win. (When we do this in the
classroom, I have to choose one person who can speak for the whole group, so no one blurts
out the wrong answer, and ruins if. You may want to do this too...be sure to make this the
quietest, shyist in the group, so they'll be sure to listen to others.) If a question
stumps everyone, double the points for double jeopardy. Great fun!
