We are having a testimony blast off. The girls will write there testimonies and place them in a helium balloon.

Hello, Thought I'd share with you what my counselor came up with this morning for a value minute. The value is knowledge.  She first talked about the lessons for Sunday school so far this year, about the creation and Adam and Eve and how when they were in the garden they didn't know good or evil and they didn't even know what they were choosing by partaking of the forbidden fruit. Then she talked about the dream Lehi had about the Tree of Life and how we all want to eat of the Tree of Life. She then went on to say that our whole reason for being here is to know that the Gospel is true and gain a testimony by gaining knowledge of things pertaining to the gospel. As a handout she gave a green apple. It was very effective.

That is really good and very similar to what our YW President did on the first Sunday in January. Before she talked about Lehi's dream, she passed out a small paper and pencils and had each girl write down the most delicious taste they could think of. Then she collected the papers. She didn't do anything with them later so I don't know if she had planned too or it was just to get them thinking about it. She then told of Lehi's dream and the delicious fruit.

At the end of the lesson she passed out another paper and had each girl write down what they Knew, not what they thought we wanted them to say. On
the paper was:
Heavenly Father
Jesus Christ
Book of Mormon
Joseph Smith
President Hinckley

There was space for the girls to write. She gave them several minutes to write. Then one by one she had them stand and read their paper to us or any part of it they were willing to share. Most of the girls shared all parts.

The girls usually have a few minutes at the end of the lesson on fast Sunday to bear testimony. This group of girls have not taken the opportunity and  so there is much silence except for one or two girls, and then a leader or two as the time grows to an end.

I heard one of the girls comment that was a sneaky way to get us to bear our testimony, however the spirit was very strong during that time.

Our YW president called it an experiment and said we were going to do it again at the end of the year.

We have a testimony teddy bear. When the teacher is finished with her lesson she picks up the bear and bears her testimony.  Then she invites all the girls to bear their testimony. The bear is passed around to each girl. If she feels inclined to bear her testimony she keeps the bear while bearing it. Then she passes it to the next girl to bear hers. I like this because when you bear your testimony it helps to have something in your arms. A "blanky" if you will. Each girl has the opportunity but yet isn't  pressured at the same time. This way there isn't that stagnant air while waiting for someone to stand up. The girls can sit where they are and not  stand up while bearing their testimony too.  You'll be surprised at the girls who will warm up to the idea of this.  I think it's a good thing. Try it if you haven't already.

We have a Testimony journal in our ward, and the YW and leaders take turns taking it home. It is really amazing the things the girls write and have testimonies about that they don't dare stand up and share. It's a huge spiritual boost when it's my turn to have the journal and I get to read through what everyone's written since last time I had it. It makes a leader's heart glad!
