We've done Missionary Month and it
was a huge success. We followed all of the same guidelines as those
posted on the site. One thing we're doing differently, as we have it
annually, is to have men from the ward and/or stake who served
missions meet with the youth assigned to the mission they served in to
learn more about the culture of that country. When we asked the kids
for feedback, they all said they wished they had known more about
where they were called to serve. With that in mind, we'll round up the
men who are available to help for the teaching night, then assign
missions and get companionships set up.
The actual full time missionaries
take one night to outline rules and go over the lesson to be taught
and recommendations for teaching. Then, we'll have a night where the
men who actually served in that location can tell the youth about the
predominant religious beliefs of the location, the food, people,
weather and how they were received in that area.
The P-day night is also going to
be a "missionaries in action" night and each youth is going to be
encouraged to bring a friend.
I don't recall seeing these ideas
or adaptations specifically and thought other leaders who are doing
the Missionary Month more than once might enjoy this change.
