How Do You Measure Up?

Alice Gifford - Page, AZ The Young Women Connection  (8/8/1999)

In preparation for school we measure the "growth" of our children and make a new mark on the wall. It is always fun to see their physical growth. Afterwards my husband gives them a "father's blessing" to help not only in their intellectual growth but also in their spiritual growth. The children are old enough now that they really look forward to this time.

Suggest that the YW ask their father for a blessing. If there is not a priesthood holder in the home, contact the home teachers for the YW and suggest that they call and offer to give a blessing. Sometimes it is difficult for YW with no priesthood in the home to ask for special blessings.

Ask "How Do You Measure Up" and give them time to write down goals for the year, review goals they had last year and the progress made. A ruler would be a good "handout".
