Taken from Teachings by Gordon B. Hinckley

"I want to say a few words to you young women, you who have crossed the threshold from childhood and early youth into the maturity of your later teens and early twenties. For you this must be a season for strength. It is a season that demands good shape of mind and of body. This is the season for preparation, and the Lord has said, "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." (D&C 38:30).

It is so important that young women learn the ways of eternal truth, that virtue is attractive and all-important, that a testimony is a pearl to be sought after and worn with dignity and pride, that incomparable blessings come from temple marriage and a wholesome, rewarding family life.

I want say to you to young women today, do not ever have inferiority complex about your place in this world which you live. You are daughters of God. Hold up your heads and stand tall and walk in righteousness and faith and virtue and truth and do not let anybody put you down or sell you short. Live

worthy of your divine inheritance, my beloved young women. You are not inferior in any sense.

Live your lives according to the principles of the gospel. You live in an age when there is so much of filth. You must not stoop down to that. You must rise above it. You must have the strength to say no and to stand tall. I promise you that if you will do so, those who would otherwise invite you to their kind of living will wish that they too had lived above those things. Be clean. Be pure in your lives. Watch the language that you use.

And as you go forward with your lives, look for companionship among members of the church. You will be much happier if you marry in the Church. You will be so much more secure in your marriage if you marry in the temple.

It becomes each of us to acquire a testimony. This is the very foundation of our faith. This is the thing upon which we build all else, the testimony which we carry in our hearts concerning our Eternal Father and His Beloved Son.

I want to bear you my testimony. I know that God our Eternal Father lives. I know that. I know that He watches over us, His children. He is the great God of the universe. He is the Governor of the universe. And yet He listens to each of us, His children, and how thankful we ought to be. I know that

Jesus is the Christ, the Redeemer of the world. He who wrought a great Atonement in behalf of each of us. I hope that you will remember this, that you heard Gordon B. Hinckley say that he knows that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ, The Redeemer of the world, and that they appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, that the Book of Mormon is true, that the priesthood is upon the earth, and that we exercise it in behalf of the sons and daughters of God. That is my testimony and it is as real and as true as the sunrise in the morning."
