"The Home is
the basis of a righteous life, and no other instrumentality can take its place
or fulfill its essential functions in carrying forward this God-give responsibility."
Elder Robert D. Hales April Conference l999
Our youth had this
fireside with their parents last evening. It was very successful.
Parents were given this survey prior to the Fireside. One parent needed to fill it
out, and that particular parent needed to be at the fireside. The YW President stood
in the front of the room, and the kids and parents were seated in chairs which faced each
other in the room (youth on one side and parents on the other). The moderator read a
question and the answer from one of the surveys. Any youth who thought his/her
parent wrote that particular answer raised their hand and their parent had to stand.
Then, the parents were asked who wrote the response and all who did not, sat down.
The "guilty" parent was left standing. It was amazing that most of the
kids knew their own parents'
answers.
Here are the questions:
1. Where were you born?
2. How many siblings do you have?
3. Where do you fit in?
4. What is your most memorable fight with a sibling?
5. What type of chores did you have?
6. Who was your best friend in grade school and how did you meet?
7. What was your favorite pet? (give the name and a brief
"why")
8. What is your favorite memory of your parents?
9. What is the most important thing you learned from your parents?
10. How did you meet your spouse?
11. Was it love at first sight?
12. How did you (he) propose?
13. If there is one thing you would really like your child to know what would it be?
14. How do you feel about Jesus Christ?
15. How do you feel about Joseph Smith?
16. How do you feel about the Book of Mormon?
17. Tell us about your conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints.
18. How has being married in the temple helped your marriage?
19. When did you first read the Book of Mormon?
We didn't get through all the questions, but we sure enjoyed the ones that were
read. Then each family took home their parents' answers so the youth could read all
the responses. It was a great evening.
