Family Feud

| Submitted by: Pam LDMcEwen@aol.com PREP TIME: Several hours COST: $4.00 for candy from the $1 store FUN: Lots Step 1: QUESTIONS. I polled the YW list, Parents list and the teem list with 25 different questions. After recieving over 100 answers I took the top 4-8 answers and reduced the number of questions to 20. Some questions while sounding good just did not get enough variety to use. The answers to the questions with my comments are below. Step 2: SETTING UP THE GAME. I used Corel Presentations and my computer to set up the questions (I have a laptop and can connect it to a TV). This could also be done with poster boards, I think (be original). At the top of each screen was the question which wasn't revealed until after it had been read. Then the answers were below, covered, with the highest response first and going down the page in descending order. The number of responses was the number of points each answer was worth. Step 3: SETTING UP THE ROOM. We met in a narrow, long room. Down the middle I put 4 standard church classroom tables in a long row. I placed chairs against both walls for the teams to sit on. When a team was answering a question they would line up along the side of the tables while the other team sat in their chaires. This allowed me to walk down one side to ack each person the question. I used a rolled up dish towel with rubberbands around it for a "buzzer". Step 4: PLAYING THE GAME. As the girls arrived we divided them into "families" trying to keep the number of Beehives, MiaMaids and Laurels even on each team. The oldest girl was the "head" of the family. The "head" came to the front where the rolled up towel was and was asked the first question. The first person to grab the towel won the chance to answer. If there answer was the number 1 she would ask her team if they wanted to play or pass. If her answer wasn't the number one her opponent had the right to try and guess a higher answer. Whoever got the higher answer option to play or pass. Once it was decided which team would play each girl would return to her spot in line and the team playing would stand up. PLAY: The team deciding to play would have the right to try and figure out all the answers to the question before missing three times, "strikes" (I used cardboard X's for strikes). I would just go down the line of girls asking each one in turn the question. In each round I started with the girl that was after the one that came to the front. If they received three strikes the other team had the chance to "steal" the points. During "play" no player may help another come up with an answer. I used a time limit of 15 seconds to answer and if no answer was given it would be a strike. PASS: If a team decides to pass the other team must play. A team would decide to do this if they think the question is hard and they can get a chance to steal. STEAL: If the team playing fails to find all the answers before three strikes the opposing team get the chance to steal. All players give the "head" possible answers and then the "head" gives the MC one answer. If the answer is on the board the stealing team gets the points that had been revealed before the steal. If the answer is not on the board the "playing team" gets the points. Time limit of 15 seconds to discuss possible answers. Play continues like this with the next member of the family coming to the front and so on and so forth. After all questions (or a pre-set time) have expired the team with the most points wins. For a prize I bought a couple of bags of gold chocolate coins for the winning team and tootsie roll suckers for everyone. Activity went very well with all involved enjoying it. The questions were just hard enough to allow for lots of attempted steals. QUESTIONS: Disclaimer: There is no scientific basis for these answers, they are all for fun. 1.
