Submitted by Colleen in Taylorsville, UT  [gpoole@aros.net]

I am the PP specialist in our ward. I have been struggling for weeks to find an idea of a way to help our girls choose to "Stand As a Witness" this year. I have finally put the following idea into rough draft form. Maybe some of you will have some clever ideas to enhance it or make it more effective. If so, please email me privately.

We are giving our girls an empty container (these are pretty, I got them on a great clearance at Fred Meyer--but any container would do.) On the outside I'll have a pretty gift bow and a little gift card that says something like: What I am is God's gift to me. What I BECOME is MY gift to God. I will Stand as a Witness in 2000

I am preparing a list of ideas that the girls could choose from at New Beginnings. Then once each month, they can add new goals to their box. AT the end of the year, they'll have a box full of the things they have worked on to stand as a witness of Christ. Hopefully, they'll choose some of the same goals for all of the 12 months--like doing a personal progress goal in their books.

Here is the rough draft of the goals they might choose for the month of February. These will be on little slips of paper and they may choose as many as they want to work on.

My gifts to God--I Want to Stand as a Witness in 2000

1. I will work to eliminate one behavior that keeps me apart from my Savior.

2. I will accomplish at least two goals per month in my Personal Progress program.

3. I will work to strengthen the relationship I have with my family.  This will require being more kind, more patient, more understanding, more tolerant, and more helpful.

4. I will work at being cheerful.

5. I will read the scriptures each day this month.

6. I will do an anonymous act of service each week this month.

7. I will write one thank you note each week during the coming month. (People to consider: teachers, friends, parents, siblings, speaker in church, leaders, grandparents, other relatives)

8. I will work at being more attentive and reverent in sacrament meeting.

9. I will learn about and prepare for my patriarchal blessing.

10. I will read my patriarchal blessing each Sunday this month.

11. I will support my YW leaders by attending Mutual each week this month, by participating in class on Sunday, and by appreciating the love they show to me through their service.

12. I will memorize four scriptures that help me to have trust in my Heavenly Father.

13. I will memorize a poem that helps me feel closer to Heavenly Father.

13. I will bear my testimony either in YW or in seminary or in sacrament meeting.

14. I will write in my journal regularly this month.

15. I will choose valiantly this month--movies, television, books, computer games

16. I will choose valiantly this month--words I say, the way I dress, the music I listen to

17. I will work at becoming friends with one of the less active girls in our ward.

18. I will try to learn some new skill each week this month--prepare a new recipe, sew an item from a new pattern, tackle a new piece of music, make something pretty for my room, etc.

19. I will pick one character trait of the Savior to try to emulate every day this month.
