Standing As a Witness - Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy Sent to me by my friend Leigh Ann This made me think back several years, to our oldest son who was quite talented at soccer. He also gave it "his all" and was on a very competitive premier team by the time he was in his teens. They were very special to him, as they had known one another for years, and many of them were in the same school, too; but the games were all on Sundays, because many of the boys were also on school teams by that age...and those games were on Saturdays. Every other week, the games were also an hour away in Athens, GA. We did not insist he quit the team, but he knew that we would only attend the games in town that didn't conflict with attending church. That was a given...He did play for a season or two, but then, on his own, decided to quit. Then, in a talk, he bore his testimony, and talked about how much the team had meant to him, but that he knew he made the right decision. We were very proud but sad for him, as I remember it. (nearly 10 years ago, now) Well, the upshot of it all was, that team became
the core of the varsity team at his school, and in his senior year, his friends all
encouraged him to try out and polish up on his ball skills with them. He did, and made the
team, and had a wonderful time with them, and they were a good team and had a good
year...so he felt truly blessed. As I told you before, he was able to pretty much stay on
the straight & narrow, and then get ready and go on a mission, attend BYU and is now
married in the temple. I think that choice in his life those years ago made a great
difference in how his life spun out...but, truly, we advised but did not make the decision
for him.... Background by: Paint Pots |
