by: Becky beckyspoints@yahoo.com Dear Sisters,
I am doing Personal Progress. I'm writing this to motivate all of you.
I started Personal Progress in December and have already finished 5 experiences and one
project. I only spend an hour or so on Sunday afternoon doing the experiences (except for
those that required me to do something for several weeks, but still then I read the
scripture and started and ended on Sunday). My project was something I was working on
anyway for New Beginnings, so I got the YW President (I'm 1st Counselor) to sign off on it
before I started. They say that we should incorporate good things we are already doing in
our lives into our personal progress and as a member of the YW presidency I can sure see
lots of opportunities for projects.
Doing the Personal Progress along with the girls has really helped me gain a strong
testimony of Personal Progress. It has also helped me grow spiritually. It makes me a
better leader. When I talk with the girls I try to always mention things I've been doing
in personal progress as a way to motivate them too. When I do Personal Progress interviews
I talk to them about what I've been doing and it helps them see how important it is to me.
So far I've had my husband and YW president sign off on my experiences but I'm going to
have the Mia Maid president sign off one this week - she'll get a kick out of that. I'm
working with the RS president on a new project next month and I'm going to have her sign
off on that one (she is my "leader" after all).
Overall this has been a great experience and I recommend it to all of you. I'm really
motivated to get my medallion because I am the only one in my presidency that didn't get
it as a YW (I notice on Sunday when we all sit in front and I have a medallion on the left
of me and a medallion on the right of me.) But I'm sure doing personal progress
again would be helpful to any leader, even if they have already earned one in the past.
This program is so doctrinally heavy, I'm sure everyone could learn something new.
I've set a goal to finish by the end of this year. Anyone here with me? (Note
from YW Connection - if any leaders take her up on this challenge, I'd like to post your
names here when you receive your award °Ü°)

As a Stake YW Presidency, we are each doing the new Personal Progress program too.
We are very excited about the fact that there is so much
emphasis on the scriptures and developing a testimony of Jesus Christ. While the new
program gives our young women the opportunity to move at their own pace and qualify for
their medallion in a relatively shorter period of time, we are not encouraging them to do
so. We feel that it is very important for our young women to "become" young
women of faith and integrity, etc. through immersing themselves in the young women value
experiences and projects as opposed to completing requirements to earn a piece of jewelry.
The true reward is be the becoming.
When I first read through the new program's value experiences I wanted to start right away
because I saw an opportunity for tremendous spiritual
growth. Maybe I march to the beat of a different drummer in this, but I devoted a whole
week to just studying Hebrews 11 (Faith requirement #1) and a whole week to studying Alma
32 (also Faith requirement #1). What I want to know is what did the brother of Jared do to
have enough faith to see the finger of the Lord and subsequently, see the Lord? And if he
did it, can I do it? Can I develop that kind of faith? Although the requirements for
leaders earning the YW medallion are much more streamlined than the YW requirements, I
feel I would be cheating myself if I didn't really immerse myself in all of the value
experiences. So I'm hoping I can pace myself to finish the Faith requirements before the
end of the year. My goal isn't getting the necklace, but becoming a woman of faith.

I have also started to study the scriptures that go with the 7 values. I began with Divine
Nature, because that is the value we did for Jan. Then, last night I read about Individual
Worth and made sure to record my thoughts and feelings in the journal provided. It is an
awesome program and has helped me immensely! I HIGHLY recommend it to all of you.
Incorporate these scriptures in your presidency meetings and then work towards your
individual goals- but DO IT ! It will strengthen your testimonies and will help you. I
plan to do this with our meetings as well - just haven't done it, yet. God bless us all in
our callings working in the YW program.

Thank you for your wonderful inspiration!! I
was just (since the end of November) put into our Beehive group as an advisor. I haven't
worked in YW's for 23 years!! I am excited to earn the medallion with the girls. You have
really given the encouragement I needed to get started!!

This is my first time writing in, but I too
have a very strong testimony of the Personal Progress Program. I have been working on my
medallion and it
has given me such a wonderful opportunity to stay closer to the spirit continually. I am
also 1st counseler in YW. So I was given time to talk about the new PP Program at NB. Our
evening turned out great. I would have probably had only one girl getting a medallion, but
instead we had 6 girls
recieve a medallion (4 beehive, 2 mia maid). I stayed as a shadow to them trying to
challenge and bouy them up to get their medallion before the new
program started. I am grateful to Heavenly Father for this opportunity and privilage to
work with his daughters. I know they will never regret
completeing the PPP only not completeing the program. I know this becuase I never recieve
mine. And I regret that I wasn't active then. So here is my chance and I am loving it.

I'm with you! I am YW President and I
have earned the previous medallion, but I agree that this is a great way to be an example
and show how I am excited to earn the medallion. I haven't started yet - because all the
PP books went to the YW, but I will as soon as our shipment arrives.
What better way to connect with the YW than to share thoughts and plans about Personal
Progress! I've challenged my Presidency to do the same.
