I wanted to share our activity last night. We had a fun combined
activity, made scarecrows to have at a pumpkin walk next week- Halloween- for the
neighborhood kids. Donuts on a string, apple bobbing. Then the kids made their own ice
cream sundaes, all sorts of toppings to choose from. They were told NOT to eat it till
after the bishops talk and the prayer. The bishop spoke on choices he gave a story about
his mission president when he -the president- was a missionary-he and his companion were
going to go on a helicopter ride on one of their P days, against the rules. They changed
their mind and decide to be obedient to the mission rules. The helicopter took off then
exploded! It was a vivid illustration of choices and consequences.
He continued to talk about the importance of choices and especially the ones they are
making at this time in their lives. He reminded them that some choices could prevent them
from going on a mission or attending the temple. He talked for about 10-15 min and all the
time you could see the kids sneaking tastes of their ice cream. At the end of his talk he
told them to trade their ice cream with their neighbor to illustrate that choices often
effect other people. You should have seen the look on their faces! I think most traded
then traded back but it got the point across!
