Contributed by:Holly in CA hheslop@juno.comWe are
planning on doing a "Beehive Conference" this year. Our stake has never done
this before but we thought it would be neat to get all the girls in the stake together
since they don't get to participate in youth conference. Here's a copy of our
tentative
plan:
Possible themes:
 |
"Bee Happy"
|
 |
"Bee The Best You Can
Bee" |
 |
"Bee Smart" |
Date: Saturday (for about 3-4 hours) January or March?
Mini Classes:
 |
Babysitting Clinic: Basic
dos and donts for babysitting, mini first aid, display or have girls actually
make a "babysitting kit" (a box they can fill with some fun stuff for kids)
|
 |
Etiquette Class: Basic things
like eating, chewing gum, sitting, posture, setting a table and using the right utensils,
being polite, etc.
|
 |
Hair/Skin/Make-up: Maybe have
a hairstylist come and do some very basic make-over. Have a person talk about good skin
& hair care, good grooming (bathing!), using little make-up, etc.
|
 |
Cooking or Craft Class: teach
a real basic class for 1 or both. Maybe cream puffs or a simple pie recipe. For the craft,
something simple and in expensive.
|
Meet all together with girls at first. Maybe have a really short
speaker/introduction of theme and mini-classes. Divide girls in 3-4 groups depending on
how many classes there are. The classes could be 20-30 minutes long. After all of the
rotations are done, have them meet in cultural hall for a light lunch (dessert could be
the class they made!) and maybe a fashion show????
Laurel Projects:
 |
Have 1 or 2 YW put together a
"modest" fashion show to music.
|
 |
Have 1 or 2 YW put this whole
thing together! (Plan the lunch, prepare it, get the speakers, invitations, publicity,
etc.) |

I had to write and share that we just held a Beehive conference
this past weekend and we did exactly what you described. Same workshops and everything. We
had Beehives on the tables made from large jute rope and fall leaves scattered on around
the hives. We put gold bee lapel pins in the hives and then let the girls each take a pin
home with them. Our day turned out so well.
Our theme was "Bee Bee-utiful". I felt really strongly
that our Beehives needed this too. They don't participate in many stake activities and
need to feel included and special. We had a marvelous dinner and special music. One of our
laurels did a fashion show for her Laurel project. We felt good about the event. This was
the first time this had happened in our stake, at least the first that I know of, but we
are planning to have it annually.
