Contributed by: LisaH20melon@aol.comWhen I was in Stake YW a few years back, we would hold Beehive Conf.
annually in the Spring. We'd do the same conf. every other year and on the off year we'd
do something different. The one we did every other year was called, "FROM LOLLIPOPS
TO LIPSTICK".
Our mini classes would center around the girls growing up and talk
about the changes in their lives.....from primary and little girl things to Jr. high and
YW and growing up. Of course we decorated with lollipops and had little Avon samples of
lipstick {or you could try the homemade lip gloss that keeps coming up on the list....that
could be one of the classes}. We'd have lunch, and end with a great speaker.
Some of the decorations were different sizes of
Styrofoam balls
with colored cellophane to resemble suckers. The girls really looked forward to this one
and they all knew they'd get to go to this one at least once while they were a Beehive.
The leaders also liked this because we only had to plan a new conf. every other year.
We also did another one called, "FOOTSTEPS THROUGH THE
VALUES".....{ Faith in Every Footstep theme a few years back.} We did this on a
Saturday for 3-4 hours and had it round-robin with 7 Value Stations. The girls were
given a footprint nametag in the 7 colors.....we split them up so they could mingle with
all the girls in the stake. Towards the end, we broke for lunch and then ended with
speakers.
FAITH-----------was our speakers who were returned sister
missionaries in our stake that the girls really admired. All the girls came to this class
together.
DIVINE NATURE-----------they had to write a letter to someone
whose divine qualities they admired....on BLUE paper of course! They sealed them in
envelopes and then WE mailed them.....to make sure they made it into the mailbox!!!
INDIVIDUAL WORTH------------this class they had to write 3 things
about themselves that nobody else might know....then the leader randomly read things off the
cards and the girls had to guess which girl it was in their group. They loved it!!!! And
learned some neat things about each other.
KNOWLEDGE-----------was a life-size board game in the cultural
hall.....the girls were the pawns and they had a big cardboard die to roll and they had to
answer church questions to move around the board.....one of the leaders went to a lot of
work!!
CHOICE & ACCOUNTABILITY----------was dessert. We had a real
ice cream cart and had LOT"S & LOT"S of YUMMY & TEMPTING CHOICES. . .
.but here's the catch......they could only choose 3 toppings!!! Boy was that hard on them
cuz the choices were really good.
GOOD WORKS-------------the girls made dominoes for the local Head
Start program....they base coated and then hand stamped coordinating characters on them.
Then we had had fabric bags to put them in and delivered later. Keep this one simple but
fun!
INTEGRITY----------we had someone telling stories about
integrity....and discussing what integrity is with the girls.
We decorated with red checkerboard cloths and high top shoes and
boots with flowers in them. It was a very memorable day for the girls and made them think
about and recognize the value colors.
