The YW room will be broken up into 3 classrooms.
- A writing class in which they will have to do a
journal page and get to know you page as we spotlight a girl each month.
- A scripture class. We have picked out several
scriptures the girls are to look up and find out how they can help them in their lives.
Example: When you feel down and out... Romans8:31, If people feel unkind...John 15
. We have a list of phrases they have to match to the scriptures as they look them up in
this class.
- P.E. meaning Pray with Enthusiasm ( and for this I
have a special story to read to them as a YW prays to her Heavenly Father.)
We will have a lunch break which will be sack
lunches with chips, drink and sandwiches.
As for the kit I got this on some YW site, not sure which one right now. I have been
collecting these things for several months as I saw good deals at Wal-Mart, or the dollar
store etc. It could get pricey if you have a lot of girls.
A TOOTHPICK - to remind you to pick the good qualities in everyone including yourself.
A RUBBER BAND - to remind you to be flexible. Things might not always go the way you want,
but they will work out.
A BAND-AID - to remind you to heal hurt feelings, either yours or somebody else's.
A ERASER - to remind you that everyone makes mistakes. Be forgiving.
A CANDY KISS - to remind you that everyone needs a compliant each day.
A PENNY - to remind you to count your blessings every day.
A MINT - to remind you that you're worth a mint.
A BOOK OF MORMON ( OR PICTURE OF ONE) - in a lung bag. Feast on his words.
BAG OF CHIPS - Turn to prayer when the chips are down.
COMPASS- The eternal circle of life.
PACKAGE OF PAPER - Don't forget to record your daily journal
RULER - Stay on the straight and narrow.
PAPER CLIP - Clip yourself to good friends and invite others to clip to you.
PENCIL - Be lead by the Spirit.
PE-CHEE FOLDER - Have a peachy keen attitude.
SCISSORS - Cut out the bad habits.
GLUE STICK - Stick to your standards/testimony.
CRAYONS - Try different things in your life- color your life with good opportunities
PENCIL SHARPENER - Sharpen your skills, not your tongue.
KEY CHAIN/ LIGHT - You hold the keys to your success, Let Christ be the light that leads
the way.
A MARBLE - For those days you are sure you've lost all yours.
We also are starting out the evening by using Pres. Hinckley's Be Smart and have a story
to share about knowledge.

I thought I would let you know of an easy First Aid/Back to
School Kit that I did for the YW Sunday. I used Altoid tins and put a label on the
top that said Back to School (across the top) and First Aid Kit below that. In the middle
was the RX symbol for pharmacy.
Inside the tin I had eight different items. Inside the lid I
placed a label that described the items which were:
- Life Saver -- Hold true to the gospel
- Gum -- 'Chews' the Right
- Tape -- 'Stick' to your YW Values (BTW - this was a 2-3"
dowel that I wrapped duct tape around, comes in handy you know)
- Magnifying glass -- 'Increase' your knowledge of Christ
- Band Aid -- The scriptures can 'aid' you everyday
- Towelette -- Stay 'clean' by obeying commandments
- Bayer Aspirin -- Prayer cures all woes
- Stars -- (I used stickers) Be an example -- 'shine'
You can get individually wrapped towlettes, aspirin (I
suggest using Tylenol or some un-aspirin stuff) I just told my girls to give their aspirin
to their parents and explained about Reyes Syndrome.
I tried to tie it into the value of 'Integrity' and the
girls seemed to really appreciate it. They plan on taking them to school and having it in
their lockers. I think it would have been nice to also have a safety pin and/or needle and
thread in the kit.

we did it as a poster. It has a
nice border and font, and includes 21 items. We copied it on to white speckled cardstock
and put 1" magnet strips on each corner and will encourage our YW to put it in their
lockers. It could be used just as it is printed out, or embellished with any number of
"doo-dads". We put little things on all of the items (list follows), but it
looked almost over-done, took more time than we thought, and was slightly pricey -
sometimes less is more (most of the items could be found around the house, and we were
REALLY lucky to find a couple of things on clearance). We are also handing out a copy of
"The Study Prayer" and candies with little quotes printed on bright colored
paper. If you send me request, Feel free to change anything you want.
==============================
THE STUDY PRAYER
Now I lay me down to study,
I pray the Lord I won't go nutty.
If I should fail to learn this junk,
I pray the Lord I will not flunk.
But if I do don't pity me at all,
Just lay my bones down in the study hall.
Tell my teacher I did my best,
Then pile my books upon my chest.
And when I lay me down to rest,
I pray I'll pass tomorrow's test.
If I should die before I wake,
That's one less test I'll have to take.
===================================
"HUGS" & "KISSES" to remind you that you are loved.
A "LIFESAVER" to remind you that you can come to any of your Young Women
leaders for help at any time for any reason.
"SMARTEST" to remind you to "Be Smart"!
- "Get all the education that you can. The Lord has laid upon you a
mandate that you should learn, that you should study, that you should
acquire knowledge of things.... Be smart!"
- "School will open up opportunities for you that you otherwise would
not have. So, take advantage of it! If you have to sacrifice, do it,
but go to school."
- "There can be no doubt, none whatever, that education pays. Do not
short-circuit your lives. If you do so, you will pay for it over and
over and over again."
- "I hope that you are studying diligently and that your great ambition
is to get A grades in your various courses. I hope your teachers will be
generous toward you and that your studies will yield top grades and an
excellent education. I could wish nothing better for you in your
schoolwork."
