Ohhhhh.....New
Beginings for us last night was SUCH a success. It was GREAT. Our
presidency had decided to go with a "Survivor" theme. What fun. We set
a post in the foyer closest to the Young Women's room and assigned the
girls and their parents to 4 different "tribes" : TRUTH, PROMISE, FAITH,
AND MEDALLION. We tore up strips of fabric before hand for them to put
on to identify which group they were in. Some put them on their
heads, some legs, some arms. You get the picture.
Then we sent them on a "Survival Trek" around the building before they
could meet in the RS room. As they went on the "trek" they gathered
pieces of what would turn out to be a "map" at little stations set up at
4 different spots. They glued their "map" together while they waited for
everyone else to arrive. The "map" showed them all of the things the
girls need to survive this life and again "Come Unto Christ" - our ward
YW's personal theme - scriptures, family, prayer, and the YW's program.
Then we sent them to the cultural hall/gym for their "challenges". We
had it all set up in 4 sections and in the middle was a little display
of survival/camping gear.
The
refreshments were fun (what my Beehives and I were in charge of. We had
peanuts and carrots and celery and raisins and vegetable dip. There were
"ants on a log" celery with peanut butter and raisins on it too and this
was served in camping gear - cast iron skillets, griddles, pots, bamboo
baskets. So cute. Then we made pudding dirt cups and put bright colored
sour gummy worms on them. But, the hit were the drinks. I have 2 ice
trays that make those little rounded ice cubes about the size of the end
of your pinky. We filled those with Kool-Aid in different flavors-
all colors to match the YW Values (except for white) and froze them to
make brightly colored ice cubes. We poured Sprite over them and wheeled
out this rainbow of drink choices. It was awesome. The ice cubes
flavored the drinks just slightly and people were asking to try other
peoples drinks to see what flavor their color was.
