We did a Soulvivor Theme. Our
decorations were chalk pastel drawings on large paper of palm trees and
large snakes and henequen plants. I had a bunch of electric candles from
YWIE 2007 and I rolled up white paper into a tube and put them over the
candles to make them look like tall lamps. I put them on
the piano, the main table and the tables where we had the games set up
on. We did it in the primary room for a more intimate setting with long
tables around the parameter of the room.
Then as the young women and their parents arrived we had the teams (a
team was 1 parent to 1 child) wear the same color lay. I had a girl say
the YW theme and motto. Then another girl explained
what the motto and theme meant to her in her life. Next I
read what the objectives were for the YW in the program and the PP
program. Because our speaker cancelled I asked the lady if I could tell
the girls some of the things she was going to say. It worked out well
and I know the girls felt the spirit.
Next were the games. We tailored the games to suit our group. We
divided up the games between the 1st counselor, secretary and myself. (
that makes up the total of our YW leadership). I was in charge of
Integrity, Individual Worth and Good Works. For Integrity I had the
girls think of 3 examples they've seen of integrity in their family
(taken from the PP book), for Individual Worth I did "Guess that Girl"
I named a talent possessed by this girl and they would have to guess who
it is. This one was a hit. I think every activity was a hit!! The
parents thanked us after and said they really enjoyed it. There was lots
of laughter during the games so that is always a good sign!
Dessert was cookies and brownies, non-alcoholic strawberry kiwi
Daiquiris, and I put little cute umbrellas in the glasses.
As for the points..in the beginning we had the teams come up with a team
name and I wrote the name on a chalk board and we just kept track of the
pts that way. We spent some time at the end doing the magnet thing but
again there was not enough time. My 1st Counselor found large flat
magnets and I think she attacked a plastic cover on it so that you can
stick a piece of paper into the plastic cover and then when the girls
are finished that goal they write another one down and slip it into the
cover on the magnet. We will be following up with the girls goals and
making sure they are working towards their goal and updating their
goals. Well that's enough for now....
