Snow White and the Seven Values

Contributed by: Kayla Volmer ZestyZL@msn.com (2/1/08)

My Young Women's leaders suggested that I post this online because the girls and I worked so hard on it.  For new Beginnings this year we decided to do "Snow White and the Seven Values".  We wrote up a skit that all the girls got to participate in.  Here is the script we used for the skit.

General Plot:

Snow White is a lovely, virtuous and kind, young Princess, about to enter the YW Program.  She is wondering about why some Princesses don't live gospel principles but still get attention for it.  As she discusses the topic with her mother, the Queen, she becomes frustrated and confused and in a fit of hysterics throws herself, crying, onto her bed.  She cries herself to sleep and dreams about meeting each of the 7 YW values who are dwarfs.  Each dwarf teaches her about one of the YW values and each is dressed in the color of that value. Snow White is comforted by what she learns in her dream about her worth as a daughter of God and wakes from the dream with a renewed sense of personal dignity.  She meets 7 YW who remind her of the 7 dwarfs and goes to her first YW with them, but first invites the new Beehives in the audience to come with her.

SKIT:  SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN VALUES

Narrator (the Magic Mirror):  Once upon a time, in a Kingdom not so far away, lived a Princess by the name of Snow White.  Snow White was deemed the fairest in the land because as a child she never cheated at checkers, she always shared her Royal treats, she was kind to even the lowliest servants, and she was so patient that she didn't even eat her "hasty pudding' in a hurry!

As she neared the magical age of Young Womanhood, and her soon introduction into the Mutual Group for Young Royals, she began sharing with her parents, the King and Queen, some concerns she had about recent observations she'd made and wondered why some of the Princesses in the Kingdom were making wise decisions, whereas others were making really unwise choices.  She wanted to be a part of the rest of the Royal youth but she was confused and troubled.  Being a part was important, but she also wanted to do what was right.  She was worried about what the Kingdom's Princes wand Princesses would thing of her.  In fact, she didn't quite know what to think about herself!  With al these thoughts going through her mind, she munched on an apple while she sat talking to her Mother, the Queen, in her bedroom:

Snow White (SW):  Mom, I saw Cinderella on a date the other day with Prince Charming and she's not 16 yet!  AND, all of the Princes like Jasmine because she wears revealing clothes.  Even Ariel disobeys her Dad and runs off to be with Eric!  I don't get it!  Why do those who don't live up to the Church standards seem to be so popular?  How could Princesses, of Royal blood, do those things?  Does it make them happy?

Queen (Q):  Snowy, dear, some people look only at the outside and interest in those girls will be only temporary.  But true beauty, YOUR beauty, is everlasting...inside and out...and will lead to lasting happiness.

SW:  But how can I make my peers understand that I want to be a part of things, to fit in, but still always do the things that I know are right?  How can I make the world recognize my worth?

Q:  I think if you search deep inside you will find you already know the answer to that question, Snowy dear.  (Queen Exits)

SW: (As her mother leaves, SW throws herself into a chair.)  But I DON'T understand!  I wish this were a fairy tale with the happy ending that makes everything plain and simple and it all turns out right in the end!  (She cries herself to sleep).

Lights out. (Stage set with bushes)  Lights up.

(Enter first dwarf-Faith).  SW wakes up to music being sung and sees a dwarf emerge from behind a bush.

Faith Dwarf is singing to the tune High-Ho:

High-ho!  High-Ho!

Our seeds of Faith we'll sow

We'll hope for things

That are not seen

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho! High-ho!

SW:  Oh!  Where did you come from?  Who are you?  I liked your little song.  But, why are you here?

Faith Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Faith.  My sisters and I have come to remind you of wonderful things about yourself that you may have forgotten.  You are a DIVINE Princess...a daughter of Heavenly Father who loves you.  You know of Heavenly Father's eternal plan which centers on Jesus Christ, your Savior.  Remember, dear Princess, that faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things but if you have faith you hope for things which are not seen but which are true.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess you are.  ( Hands SW a white mirror-made of paper with tin foil on the front-and exits)

Divine Nature Dwarf enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

Divine qualities I'll show

Deep in my heart

I know my part

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Divine Nature Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Divine Nature.  I also have come to remind you of something very important.  You are a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  You have inherited divine qualities which you should strive to develop.  Be diligent in adding virtue to your faith and to virtue add knowledge and to knowledge temperance.  Add to temperance patience and to patience godliness and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness charity.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess that you are.  (Hands SW blue mirror and exits)

Individual Worth Dwarf Enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

For if you're feeling low

Just think of it

You're infinite!

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Individual Worth Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Individual Worth.  Always remember that you are a DIVINE Princess...a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  You are of infinite worth with your own divine mission which you must strive to fulfill.  Remember, my Princess, that the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess that you are.  (Hands SW a red mirror and exits)

Knowledge Dwarf enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

My knowledge soon will grow

'cuz learning's cool

at church and school!

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Knowledge Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Knowledge.  I come to remind you that you are a Divine Princess, a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  Continually seek opportunities for learning and growth.  Yea, seek learning even by study and also by faith.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess you are.  (Hands SW a green mirror and exits)

SW:  Wow, I love the feeling I have as I learn this stuff.

Choice and Accountability Dwarf enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

To make your troubles go

 Do what you should

The results are good

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Choice and Accountability Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Choice and Accountability.  I am come to remind you that you are a Divine Princess, a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  Continue to choose good over evil and accept responsibility for your decisions.  Choose you this day whom ye will serve and remember always that you and your royal house will serve the Lord.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess that you are.  (Hands SW a orange mirror and exits.)

Good Works Dwarf enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

Good works will surely flow

My light will shine

Glory be thine

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Good Works Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess!  I am a reflection of Good Works.  I also come to remind you that you are a Divine Princess.  You are indeed a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  Help others, oh, Princess, and build the Kingdom through righteous service.  Let your light so shine before this people that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess you are!  (Hands SW a yellow mirror and exits)

Integrity Dwarf enters singing:

High-ho!  High-ho!

Integrity I'll show!

Till the day I die

I will not lie

High-ho!  High-ho! High-ho!  High-ho!

Integrity Dwarf:  Greetings, Fair Princess.  I am a reflection of Integrity.  I come to remind you that you are a Divine Princess and a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love you.  Dear Princess, you must have the moral courage to make your actions consistent with your knowledge of right and wrong.  Until you die, do not remove your integrity from you.  Look into this mirror and see the beautiful young Princess that you are.  (Hands SW a purple mirror and exits)

Lights out...bushes removed and SW is back in her bedroom.

Narrator (Mirror on wall):  SW was comforted by what she had learned about her worth as a daughter of God and awoke from her dream with a renewed sense of personal dignity.

SW wakes up and finds the 7 colorful mirrors by her chair.

SW:  (Our girl prepared a short talk about personal worth and told a little about what everything meant to her.  I would suggest you do this also)

There is a knock (off stage) at the door an SW goes to open it and in walk the 7 dwarfs (now in normal clothes only wearing shirts in the color of the value they represent)

Choice and Accountability Dwarf:  Hello, Snow White.  We're here to escort you to our Mutual Group!

SW:  Oh, thank you!  My goodness, you all look so familiar!  I'd love to go with you and I know some other Princesses who would love to come too!  Do you mind if they join us?

At this moment all the young women go into the audience and grab the new beehives that will be entering later on in the year and bring them up to the stage.  Then the whole YW group sings:

To the tune of Whistle While You Work:

Just be the best you can (ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahh ahhhhhh!)

And cheerfully together we can keep our standards high

So wear a modest dress (mmmmm mmmm mmmmm hhmmm hmmmm)

We wont give in to gossipin'

or cheat or steal or lie

Sometimes it's hard to wait

to go on that first date,

but we know what the prophet said

and we want to be temple wed

So be the best you can (la la la la la la la!)

we must be true in all we do

We'll be the best we can!

Narrator:  Like a true fairy tale, our story does have a happy ending. Snow White and her friends attended their first Mutual Group for Young Royals that night and she did fit right in AND remembered the messages of her dream...that she was a daughter of Heavenly Parents who love her and that she had a Royal mission to perform.

Tonight, we of the Kingdom of the ___________ Ward, welcome these new Princesses to our Mutual Group for Young Royals and present them with magic mirrors of their own, reflecting each beautiful young Princess and reminding them of their Royal Lineage.

THE END

We then introduced each girl and told some interesting things about each as we presented them a hand mirror with their names engraved on them.

This skit was so much fun and all of us girls got to have a part in it.  Those who didn’t have speaking parts were flowers and plants and sang all the High-ho songs.  We had a little stage set up with a cardboard backdrop that on one side had a bedroom scene and the other side had a woodland scene.  There was a hole in the cardboard where the mirror was and we had a girl stand behind it so it looked like the mirror had a face...like there is in Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  The dwarfs we put a plain colored fabric over them with a head hole and tied rope around their waists so they looked like dwarfs.  The mirrors that the dwarfs had had their lines on the back so they wouldn’t have to memorize everything.  We also served a dinner for the YW and their parents of Chicken-pot-pie and apple dumplings for desert.  We also had 4 girls introduce the Mutual theme of the year (Mosiah 5:15), the YW motto (Stand for Truth and Righteousness), the YW theme, and the Personal Progress Program.  It was a wonderful success and all the girls had an absolutely wonderful time!

I hope that this is helpful to you!
