You will need someone to be the Head Special Agent. It can be a YW
Leader. We used a Member of the Bishopric. He dressed in the trench
coat,
etc. We did this in the cultural hall and we have a portable stage
so we
set that up to look like a briefing room, but you could just to it
in the
front of the room. You will need a world map and the word strips
mentioned
later. We had most of the lights out, and the doors to the cultural
hall
were locked except the ones the girls and their parents came
through. On
that one we had a sign that said "Authorized Personnel Only." As the
girls
arrived we gave them their name badges, each with a different level
of
investigator for the age they were:
Rookie-Brand new beehive (one
whose
birthday was right when we held New Beginnings),
Investigator-1Y
Beehive,
Senior Investigator-2Y Beehive,
Inspector-1Y Mia Maid,
Senior
Inspector-2Y
Mia Maid,
Detective-1Y Laurel,
Master Detective 2Y Laurel,
Super
Sleuth-Those who had earned their Medallion,
Special Agent-All
Leaders.
(i.e. INVESTIGATOR JONES)
They were admitted to the cultural hall after they had their badge
and
with the secret knock on the door.
After the Welcome, song, prayer, and theme, we began the program.
We first honored all the Super Sleuths who had earned their
medallion during
the previous year with a rose.
HEAD SPECIAL AGENT: Welcome agents, I will begin tonight's briefing
with a
letter form the office of the President of the Young Women's
Organization:
(Open Letter and Read)
"With confidence in you, we issue this call, Young women of these
latter days, come hold your torches high, that Christ's true light
through
you will shine, His name to glorify. We honor you, we pray for you,
and we
love you. God bless you."
HEAD SPECIAL AGENT: That is your mission, should you choose to
accept it.
Now, a word of warning: enemy forces await you at every step of your
mission. Procrastination, Laziness, Distraction, and Forgetfulness
are just
a few of the agents we have identified. (Point to these words that
are
place on a world map).
To succeed, you will need to join forces with agents already
undercover. For their protection, I will not tell you their real
names, but
they are known in the field as Faith, Divine Nature, Individual
Worth,
Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works
and Integrity. (Point to words on map)
Do you have any questions?
YOUNG WOMAN: (We used an older Laurel who was on stage with the Head
Agent:)
Who can help us to rendezvous with these undercover agents?
HEAD AGENT: Excellent question, agent, I will quote you the
procedures
manual: (Use part of the introduction, or other quotes from the
Personal Progress Book.)
YOUNG WOMAN: How will we know what to do when we rendezvous with the
undercover agents?
HEAD AGENT: Each agent in this room has a Procedures Manual (Hold up
Personal Progress Book) that provides assignments to complete with
each of
these field agents. In order for Operation Personal Progress to be a
success, each agent here will need to accomplish 6 assignments and
one field
project with the undercover agents of Faith, Divine Nature,
Individual
Worth, and the rest.
Several Agents in this room have already worked on assignments with
these undercover agents during Operation Personal Progress this
year. For
the purposes of this briefing, I will have some of them report on
their
specific assignments now.
(At this point we had seven of the Young Women who had been sitting
in
the audience jump up with flashlights, dressed in camouflage or
whatever
that would be agent looking, and search around the room while the
Mission
Impossible Theme played. Then they lined up at the back to come
forward to
do their parts. Our ward has large flags for each of the value
colors and
they brought these with them and posted them before they said their
part.)
AGENTS: The seven Young Women came forward one at a time posted
their flag
gave the statement and scripture that goes with each value and then
briefly
told of an experience or project they had accomplished in that
value.
HEAD AGENT: Thank you agents. We know others in this room are
excited to
begin their missions so we will send you out to begin "Operation
Personal
Progress."
The girls are instructed now where to go to accomplish an activity
in the
book that night. You can have 2 or three planned so that if they
have
already finished one they can choose something else. Or check all
their
progress and see what they need. Have your super sleuths and those
girls
who are done with all the experiences and working on projects help
lead the
workshops. We had the parents participate in the activities right
along
with their daughters, they all thought it was great.
If you use this for YWIE, then you could have their accomplishments
displayed on tables and would not necessarily have to do an
activity.
We have had Laurel's who need projects be in charge of New
Beginnings, and
YWIE. They do a great job, and love what they learn from it. We of
course
on always available to help where we are assigned. If you have any
questions, email me.
