For NB we are using the S.T.A.R.
theme this year and having it stand for S.tand for T.ruth A.nd
R.ighteousness. Our theme is "Be a S.T.A.R. - Stand for truth and
Righteousness!" We are having a luncheon with the mothers on a sat. We
will do the usual intros and then we are having the new beehives (we
have 7) in a skit that will kind of be like a beauty pageant and they
will represent each of the values. We are having our Laurels help dress
the beehives in modest prom dresses in the value colors, come early and
do their hair etc. The beehives will be also wearing tiaras and sashes
that say the value color that they represent. As they are being
introduced they will walk down a runway and the MC (our Bishop) will
read a little something about her incorporating that value into her
life. Then at the end she will be given her "award" which is a letter
from her mother for her to read later in privacy. We will then have a
short talk by our PP leader about how all of the girls are stars and how
personal progress will help them "radiate" the gospel in their lives.
She will also remind the moms the importance of them helping their
daughters work on PP. Our YW pres will give a short highlight of
upcoming activities for the year and our focus for the year etc. We will
have all of the girls sing "Every star is different" from the Primary
songbook. Have a closing prayer and then we will eat our lunch which
will be Chicken salad on croissants, a star shaped sugar cookie, and
star shaped jigglers and punch.
We are also going to recognize all of our former "stars" in attendance
by having anyone who has ever received their YW recognition stand up.
And as part of the decorations to recognize everyone currently in YW
(girls and leaders) who have received their medallion we will have a
"Walk of the S.T.A.R.S." We will have glittery stars with their names on
them and they will be in a row on the floor with white lights making
like a sidewalk. (Like in Hollywood) Does that make sense? For a little
gift we are giving them these stars that we ordered from Oriental
trading that have seven ribbons hanging down (the value colors) and then
throughout the year they will receive a bead in the value color for each
experience they complete and then a gold bead when they complete the
project in that value to put on the ribbon to keep track of where they
are in their personal progress. These are for them to have at home in
their own rooms to remind them to work on PP and help them see visually
what they have completed. We are hoping that the girls will enjoy
it, especially our beehives who will be "Stars" for a day!!
Starburst Candy - Maybe we could
wrap some up in a little bag or something and have them sitting at their
places at the table as a favor or something.
(Note from Alice - YW Connection
- To carry this out all year long - use the
YWIE
Pageant or YWIE S.T.A.R.
