Our Divine Roles
| Contributed by: Kathy mkterry@deseretonline.com Looking ahead to lesson #8, I found an incredible resource I plan to weave into my lesson on the "Attitudes About Our Divine Roles" (of womanhood). I may use parts of it in other lessons, too. The Distribution Center carries the video tape: "Wives and Daughters of the First Presidency" ISBN #02998 74000, which is produced by the Church. It is "excerpts from the 1999 and 1996 Brigham Young University Women's Conferences." I wanted to get the word out early so if you wanted to order it, you'd have time. There are two segments. "Segment 1: 'Strength and Wisdom through Experience' April 30, 1999. This segment features a panel discussion with the wives and daughters of Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust. The daughters express their appreciation and love for their mothers and ask questions about experiences in their lives. Sister Marjorie Hinckley, Frances Monson, and Ruth Faust tell of meeting their husbands, raising their families, and serving in the Church. Time 66 minutes." "Segment 2: 'An Evening with Sister Marjorie Hinckley and her Daughters' May 2, 1996. In this segment Sister Marjorie Hinckley answers questions from her three daughters about her life, faith, and service. She tells of her childhood, her courtship and marriage to Gordon B. Hinckley, and of the happy, busy days spent caring for their young children. She expresses love for people all over the world, shares stories of traveling with her husband, and bears testimony of the Lord. Time: 53 minutes." Contributed by: Teresa ogh@Highland.net Divine Rolls Here's an idea from another list about our Divine roles. It would work good with lesson #8. "I wanted to share how our 2nd counselor used her creativity for a lesson a couple Sundays ago on Divine Roles. She changed Roles to Rolls and made (out of cream colored paper, ) a cookie sheet, an oven, and 6 rolls (looked like cloverleaf rolls). Small enough to all fit on the chalkboard, but large enough to see. She talked about our Roles as women, but each role was a "roll" with it written on (i.e. a roll saying "mother", one saying "teacher", etc..) I thought it was so good, I had to put it in my files, because in the Church it seems like we are always talking about our roles as women, roles as member missionaries, etc... in just about anything you can think of. The girls loved the lesson and it drove home her point well. Billie :)" Real rolls would work too with little toothpick flags that have the roles written on them. or cinnamon rolls--yummy! (A great Mutual Night Activity might be to learn to make rolls or cinnamon rolls. Drive those young men crazy with the smell of homemade bread (LOL) Maybe even deliver a plate of rolls to the bishopric :-)
