The Domino Effect

Contributed by: Vicki ywprez@hotmail.com

I had the privilege of teaching lesson 9 to my young women today and thought I would share an object lesson that went well. The lesson called for an object lesson using a rope, so I did that at the very beginning. Most of the girls had already seen it, or something similar, but they went along :) Later in the lesson, though, I set up some dominoes on the front of the table where they could all see them. I named them off as I set them up (this is me, this is my husband, this is Scott, etc.) When I had them all set up, I showed them what usually happens when one member of the family is in a bad mood, angry, etc., and pushed the first domino over, which knocked over the second and so on. They were all in total agreement that when one member of the family is unhappy, it has an effect on everyone. I then set the dominoes up again, this time leaving enough space between them that they wouldn't knock each other down. This time, when I knocked over the first one, nothing happened to the others. I told them that we don't have to "pass on" the bad moods, hateful words, etc., that we can let them end with us, return the anger with kindness, and leave our families standing together.
