Consecrated
Funds
| Contributed by: Alice Gifford - 1999 Yesterday I was taught a valuable lesson that I believe applies to this lesson. My counselor who is over girls camp had some groceries and other items that needed to be purchased and I volunteered to do those for her. Our stake has an account at one of the stores and anytime we need something we are able to go in and charge it. This has been very helpful especially when the list is long and expensive. We don't have to wait to be reimbursed. My counselor is a single mother who has is raising two beautiful children. She is very careful with her money and knows how to make it stretch and work for them. When I went to pick up the list of items, there were three lists - at different stores. She had taken the time to find the best value, which meant she could would have had to take extra time to shop at three different stores. She works full time and her free time is limited to say the least. I was very humbled by this sister and respect her even more than before. She could "easily" just purchased everything at the store where we had an account but she felt that wouldn't be right and was willing to sacrifice her time to ensure that the money was spent carefully and wisely. When she made the list she did not know that I would be willing to help her out. When I finished the shopping at just one of the stores we had saved $76.72. We only paid $67.34 for the list of items. I felt very humble and my understanding of handling "consecrated funds" grew. I honestly would have just purchased everything at one store to save myself the time. The next time I have an assignment I will think twice about how I spend the Lord's money! Due to this sister's willingness to sacrifice and to handle "consecrated" money wisely, we think we will be able to give money back to each ward! |
