by: Alice GiffordDo the personal histories that we leave for our posterity bear
witness of Christ? Do we leave for our children a record of daily events that testify of
Christ through our daily experiences? Or are we leaving only a "travel log" of
our experiences. (Something for the YW to think about now)
vs. 3 ....I searched among the records which had been
delivered into my hands, ....
Do we search the records of our ancestors and include a
story or event in their lives that may teach something to our children to come unto
Christ? Do we bear witness of the power and truth of the Book of Mormon....not only a
verbal record to our children, but a written record for our grand children and great
grandchildren?
vs. l3-14 ...and he did fight with the strength of his own
arm, and with the sword of Laban. And in the strength of the Lord they did contend against
their enemies.....
Does anyone have any insights to the sword of Laban and its
significance?
vs. 15 - ...false Christs.
Bruce R. McConkie said,
"false Christs and their presence is one of the
least understood of all signs of the times." He also
said, "A false Christ is not a person. It is a false system of worship, a false
church, a false cult .....it is any concept or philosophy that says that redemption,
salvation, sanctification, justification, and all of the promised rewards can be gained in
any way except that set forth by the apostles and prophets....False Christs are
everywhere....those who went out from us, "as they who deny "that Jesus is the
Christ," or who deny the Father and the
Son.....
vs. l7 - ...king Benjamin was a holy man, and he did reign
over his people in righteousness...
Our family spoke in church yesterday and my FIL gave a very
brief but powerful testimony of the power of righteous living and how this is possible. He
asked us to read the Sec l2l:45-46 ... "let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly;
then shall they confidence was strong in the presence of God....." The Holy Ghost
shall be thy constant companion....." Read both vs. - they are powerful!
His message was simple; fill your lives with virtue and
charity so that you may have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.
This is how we will leave a legacy of righteousness for our
children and children's children. Then make a record of our daily living following the
principles that Christ taught.
