Blessings of the House of Israel

| by: Alice Gifford I was thumbing though S. Michael Wilcox's book the "House of Glory and on pg. 67 he talks about -So Much for So Little. He asked his students to write a paper identifying every blessing that comes to the Saints from temple worship. One of the papers came back with these words, "I think it is significant and revealing of the Lord's character that we must do so little to be able to receive so much." This same idea could be used in Manual 3 Lesson l5 - ask the young women to identify all of the blessings that come to them individually through their membership in the church. Give them some time to really think about this, maybe have music softly playing in the background, and give them the time to write down their thoughts. If you have class journals - have them write in those....if not, give them a nice piece of stationary to write on. You can decided whether or not to have them read them in class or just let them take them home to reflect on. You might even suggest they keep the list of blessings in their scriptures. Today my heart has been full knowing that I live in such a blessed time, to have the gospel in my life! Can you imagine what your life would be without the gospel????? I remember when I received my patriarchal blessing that I was told I was of the House of Israel and tribe of Ephraim. I was told I came from a rich heritage and that someday I would understand this blessing. At the time, I thought (I was l8) maybe I'm from some "royal family" °Ü°. Of course, I didn't have a full understanding that I truly was from a "royal family". I think I am just know beginning to understand what I was being told in my blessing; how blessed to be upon the earth at this time, and to be born on this continent with the freedom and blessings that go along with it, to have been taught the gospel. When you see all the pain and suffering all around the world, it makes you think twice about your own life and what are you doing with it. Do I give enough back to the Lord? Am I doing enough for those who lived before me? And with all of this knowledge comes the question, "what would life be without the knowledge of the atonement?" Can you imagine how terrible it would be to go through life having committed sins and to not know about the blessing of the atonement? Or to have loved someone so much and then to think you have lost them forever through death? What comfort the gospel brings! I am so grateful!!!!! * A Mutual Activity to Reinforce this lesson might be "Gratitude Journals"
