Apostasy
and Restoration of the Gospel
Amos taught, "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in
the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the
Lord;
Christ knew that after his death there would be an apostasy from his teachings....in fact,
He said, "Take heed that no man deceive you......
Apostasy comes when we seek our own interests rather than the welfare of the Church.
Joseph Smith taught, " the moment [Latter-day Saints] revolt at anything that comes
from God, the devil takes power."
Satan was the first to apostate - while in Heaven! which teaches us that apostasy comes
from within. What is apostasy? Rebellion against God and seeking to change God's
established church.
I've often wondered how the truth could have been lost when Christ himself was the one to
establish it - except that I see everyday many of us who take the teachings of the church
or the standards and "adjust" them to suit our own standards instead of
"adjusting" our standards to meet the Lords....
If we understand that apostasy comes from within it should make us think twice when
friends encourage us to turn from the teachings of our leaders.
Do we fully understand how blessed we are to have the gospel????? Do we understand how
"dark" our lives would be without it???? Through Joseph Smith the gospel was
restored and we live during the fullness of times! What a blessing!
Do we nourish our testimonies to avoid personal apostasy? Here is an interesting quote,
"Ignorance is a fertile soil for evil growths...... Talmage - The Great Apostasy)
