Contributed by: rpeijm@hotmail.comLesson 32 does look like it could be a hard one to teach. Being the
mother of a child with disabilities I really dislike the story (from 1973) about Cindy. I
think it gives such a negative and outdated view of what people with disabilities are
capable of. I'm using a different story that I have about a boy with disabilities that I
think is much more positive and up to date. I am using two articles by Russell M. Nelson:
Reverence for Life, Ensign, May 1985 and We Are Children of God, (from the resource list)
Ensign, November 1998. One warns us against abortion and the other teaches us how
wonderful our human bodies are. So I will probably focus a little on abortion and then try
to help them see that they are unique and important. I'm going to use the Jelly Bean poem
I got from this list with a little bag of jelly beans as my handout. It talks about how
wouldn't it be nice if we could just accept each other as we are and love everyone,
because everyone's life is important. Hope that helps.
