Contributed by: Sandy in Idaho sandy@nstep.net An object
lesson/attention getter I still remember from Seminary about fasting is:
Materials needed: small amount of white flour.
Invite one class member to the front, ask her to look very hungry. Put some flour on her
face, especially cheeks and forehead. Have her turn to the class.
Introduction: (Girl's Name) is fasting today, can you tell? She wants to make sure that
everyone knows she is fasting, so she walks around looking hungry and making a big deal
about giving up food for 24 hours. Do you think she is fasting correctly?
Discussion: Read Matt 6:16-18. Remind the girls that in the time of Christ, people would
put on makeup to make themselves look hungry so everyone would know when they were
fasting. Discuss the difference between making a show of sacrifice and willingly
sacrificing.
Conclude by saying (Girl's Name) has her reward for fasting, since we all know she is
fasting and think she is very spiritual for doing it. But if we want the rewards from
Heaven, we need to fast with a different spirit.
Go into lesson from there.
I would also suggest using the handout from DebaNae's, maybe make it a magnet so the girls
can put it on their fridge the Saturday before each Fast Sunday as a reminder not to eat.
