Sweet Rewards of Missionary Work

My wife and I occasionally dedicate a family home evening to
teaching our children the principle of member-missionary work. We give one child a piece
of candy and ask him to sit on the couch. Then we blindfold another child, place a piece
of candy on a table someplace in the house, and ask him to find it. As the blindfolded
child searches, he soon becomes frustrated as he very much wants the treat. Finally we ask
the child on the couch to take his brother by the hand and lead him to the candy. He does
so, and they are both able to sit and enjoy a treat together.
We teach our children that missionary work is similar. As
members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have been blessed with the
fulness of the everlasting gospel. We have many friends and neighbors, and some of them
are searching for the truth blindfolded, as it were, only because they do not know where
to find it. If we do our part in offering to take our friends and neighbors by the hand
and lead them to the gospel message, the Holy Ghost will help, and we will be able to
share the goodness of the gospel of Jesus Christ with them.—Emory and Kathy Cook,
