During our youth conference this past year we put together a time capsule that will be opened in approximately four years. All the youth wrote messages to the youth who would be opening the capsule. Many of them bore their testimonies. One ward used "silver" plates and then used metal rings to bind them. They are awesome! Each ward also made a "banner" which was to represent their ward and that included a message to the youth of the Millennium.

We used a small metal garbage can (LOL) and then each of the youth signed their name on the outside. It's kind of fun! We talked about how some people's garbage is another's treasure (LOL)
I'd love to know what you do. Good luck!

We did this with our girls and had a great time, I was surprised at some of the things the girls thought of to put in their time capsules, we told them to bring ANYTHING that would help them to remember any special events that happened to them in the year 2000,  or even some that were not so special, like one girl had gotten in a really bad accident and brought a little piece of her broken bumper to put in! °Ü°

A lot of the girls put in pictures, like girls camp pictures, prom pictures, youth conference pictures, one of the girls had one of those cameras that takes the small pictures that are stickers, so we took pictures of everyone so that they could see what the hair styles were, the clothes styles, who their leaders where, stuff like that! They put in stuff like ticket stubs from their favorite movies that years, or concerts or special shows they went too!  Some girls brought tapes of their favorite songs or just words to them. Some brought dried flowers from a special date.

Then we also had them fill out a questionnaire that had tons of fun questions on it that will be so fun to read later on, stuff like, who do you think is the cutest boy in the ward! °Ü° We all committed that no matter where we are in ten years that we are all going to get back together and open them up, and I am sure laugh our heads off at some of the silly answers the girls gave! °Ü°

We also did serious ones though, like what their goals were and where they wanted to be in their lives in ten years! We had fun just sitting around chatting about the many aspects or our lives and where we wanted to be in ten years! We then put everything in  number 10 cans and sealed them with the canning machine! I tried to get someone to put one of the brownies in that we had for dessert to see what it would taste like in ten years, but I couldn't get anyone to do it! °Ü°

We also decorated the outside of our cans and put our names on them.  I can wait to get together in ten years and open those cans, it will be soooo fun so see them at 26-28 years old and what they are doing with their lives! I hope this helps, you really can put just about anything in them! Have fun!

our stake was preparing a time capsule to be sealed at the beginning of 2000. I bought a gallon of chocolate milk and some donuts, took paper and pens, and had the girls write something to be included in the capsule. I told them to describe their house, tell who their best friends were, and make a prediction of what they would be doing in 50 years when the capsule is to be opened (to be opened when they are Laurels) It was funny, because 2 of them predicted that they would be married to the same boy in our ward!

Things to include

picture of temple of choice
picture of wedding dress
color scheme
qualities you want your husband to have
qualities you need to work on for yourself
paper dolls, blue for boys, pink for girls- with names that you like
white rose for purity
bubbles for happiness and humor
candle for the light of romance
you could go as far as writing where you would like your reception to be
photographer
florist
brides maids...

We just did this activity a couple of weeks ago. It was a successful one! We had the girls fill out a survey, design their own temple ready wedding dress, put a picture of their favorite temple on a paper and then have them write why it is their favorite and why they want to be sealed in that one, we also had them write on separate papers the characteristics they want in their future husband and the person they want to be when they get married. Here are the questions that we had on our survey:

My Ideal Temple Wedding

The time of year I would like to be married: ____________________________
The age that I would like to be married:________________________________
The kind of wedding ring I would love to have:___________________________
The kind of flowers I would like in my bouquet:___________________________
The kind of wedding cake I would like to have: __________________________
Who I would like to have as my Maid of Honor: _________________________
How many Bridesmaids I would like to have:____________________________
This is the description of the reception I would like to have:
__________________
How I would love to be proposed to:__________________________________
The Temple I would love to be sealed in : ________________________________

Name:___________________ Date:______________ Age:____________

I made sure that all of the papers included in their time capsule had their names, date and age on them. We did make this a 2 part activity and our YW pres. gave a brief lesson on what to expect on the day of their temple wedding and what is an appropriate wedding dress to wear...at least the standards for it. Luckily for us, this activity corresponded with the two lessons on Dating and Marriage we had.

We're doing this in our Stake. We got #10 cans from the cannery for each girl in our stake. Then we designed a cute label of paper doll-like figures holding hands around the world. It says "Stand as a Witness" and "To be opened in 2010". (We figured a lot happens to a teenager in 10 years and  they may enjoy opening it then - or whenever they like. The girls are to fill the cans throughout the year with handouts from lessons, pictures, their testimonies, personal history etc. All of these are to be completed at the ward level throughout the year. Then at our World Wide Celebration we're going to have a person from the cannery there to seal the cans for us - so they look professional. We're so excited and so are the leaders. It really keeps the theme going throughout the year with the cans as a reminder.

I wanted to have the girls make their own time capsules which they could keep and open in the year 2010. My sister in law (who used to be a Stake YW Pres.) and I developed 3 pages which the girls could fill out and put in their time capsule.

The first page is called "The Millennial Me." It has a line drawing of a girl standing up and waving. There are lines drawn from different parts of the girl and there is a statement that goes along with that body part written followed by three blank lines. For example, from her shoes, the statement is "Places I like to go" and from her hand, "Ways I give service," from her stomach, "My favorite foods," from her heart, "The most important things to me," from her hand, "What I like to do in my spare time," from her legs, "What I do to keep fit," etc.

The second page is called "From My Heart" and it has spaces for: "My favorite scripture," "Feelings about my Savior," "Feelings about my parents," "My testimony" and "Three Young Women activities I have enjoyed."

The third page is called "Future 2010." This page only has 2 sections, one, "Describe what you want to be doing in 10 years," and "What qualities are you looking for in your future husband?"

I went to the local paint store and they sold me new 1 gallon cans with handles, lids and labels for $1.45. The girls brought things to put into their "time capsules" such as bracelets, photos, stickers, cards, stuffed animals. (One brought a Sobe bottle, but it was too big to fit in the can.) The labels had printing on one side, but I just had the girls turn them around and they decorated the white side. The label is good because it has the holes cut out for the handle and the paper is a high quality glossy paper. I just taped the labels on the cans.

The girls will be keeping their "time capsules" at their own homes. I am planning to xerox their sheets for a Young Women's Time Capsule which we will keep in the YW closet to be opened in 10 years. I told them that some of them might be young women leaders in the ward in 10 years and they will be the ones opening up the YW time capsule!

I am sure you can think of more questions than the ones on my three pages, but I wanted it to be fun and easy to fill out. It is just a snapshot of what the girls are like right now. Another idea for a page would be a bar graph showing how they spend their time in one day.

this is a little different than the past posts on time capsules. We got new paint cans from a local paint store and made up a label to be colored for the outside that included when to open it (we chose 2005) it said " This time capsule was created especially by me to be enjoyed 5 years from now. It contains my likes and dislikes and what my world is like at this time. It also contains my testimony and hope for the future."
Important Ingredients:
Birthdate:
Parents:
Living in:

Then we had a sheet of questions for them to fill out (see below) and a sheet where they could write their testimony, their favorite thing about their mom, dad and siblings. (Being a mom of a teen, I thought this would be good! )
We also had a slip where they could write the ONE thing they were definitely going to accomplish in the next five years.
We asked the girls to bring their favorite candy bar wrapper, stickers, key chains, magazine clippings of stuff they like, pictures of themselves, friends etc. We also gave them a YW torch sticker to put inside.. The girls really liked it and it was fairly easy.

As for the temple time capsule, everyone needs something to put their time capsule stuff in (Pringles cans work well if they have been
de-greased). Leaders bring old magazines (New Eras, Ensigns, even Friends and other more popular magazines that are not too worldly),
colored paper, scissors, punches, etc. The YW then cut out pictures and words to make their "perfect man" collage. They also fill out a
questionnaire (where will you be married, when will you be married, how many children will you have, what will you name them, etc, etc, etc.) and write a letter to their future husband. There are other activities you can do (create their perfect wedding gown, etc) for them to put in their time capsule. They then open everything when they are engaged to be married.
