There was a
very powerful statement in the lesson.
"The priesthood is a power great enough to control worlds, yet gentle enough to bless
a newborn baby."
I printed this at the top of a piece of cardstock. Directly underneath I listed the
blessing they can receive through the priesthood. I found some of those plastic glow in
the dark planets, shooting stars, galaxies etc at a local store in the toy department (the
kind you put on your kids walls) and glued them on the bottom of the card.
I also made a pizza size sugar cookie. I made blue and brown frosting and painted the
earth onto the cookie with the frosting. As I cut the cookie (they were very impressed
with this) I re-emphasized the greatness of the priesthood was powerful enough to create
the earth we live on. I gave them each a slice of the cookie and told them that just as
they were partaking of this cookie, I hoped they would partake of the blessings of the
priesthood.

Another idea was to find the
key chains that have the world on the end of them. I've seen them, but not sure where to
find them (oriental trading co.????) and connect those candy pacifiers on with it to make
the point of the power being strong yet gentle! I do love that quote!

I used a quote by Ardeth G.
Kapp as a handout--
"Young women, as well as young men, we have cause to rejoice in the restoration of
the [priesthood]. We rejoice . . . because the priesthood was restored to bless the entire
family. Priesthood power, when exercised righteously, unites men and women, sons and
daughters, and families. We have reason to rejoice together. Togetherness in righteousness
is at the very heart of our Father in Heaven's plan for His sons and His daughters. It is
a glorious plan in which we all have a part."
I thought this was just a little reminder that just because females don't hold the
priesthood doesn't mean we are not able to receive all of the blessings. I got a lot of
participation, and everyone seemed to enjoy the lesson.
PS I also gave them a mini Almond Joy, as a treat and to help them to think about the JOY
that the priesthood brings into our lives.

I just taught this lesson
last Sunday. I took in a lamp and a light bulb. The light bulb represents a righteous
priesthood holder. The lamp represents priesthood power. When a righteous priesthood
holder is plugged into the priesthood, his priesthood power will illuminate. We are
blessed by the light of priesthood. Through priesthood power we can overcome darkness and
enjoy the blessings of light and direction in our lives.
Then I had a hand out with a lamp on it and it said. "Plug into a powerful source of
strength... Priesthood Power."

For a little hand out I got some small rulers @ walmart tonight. (i
wanted little tape measures, but couldn't find any) you could also use
measuring spoons, or that "bubble tape" just depending on your budget.
These rulers were .24 and that is right up my alley budget wise! anyway,
I plan to attach "The blessings of the Priesthood are immeasurable".
I plan to have pictures of different blessings of the Priesthood I have
experienced in my life....when my family was sealed when i was7, my
baptism, my wedding (eternal marriage), the day i took out my endowment,
the day my baby was born (eternal family) also one of my husband injured
when he truly gained the testimony of a blessing of healing. anyway,
these pictures will be my display. oh! and i found a talk @ lds.org
called YW and the blessings of the Priesthood from a New Era in 1993 by
Dianne Mangum. I thought it would be a really nice thing to have on hand
for those "what do we need to learn about the priesthood for?

The idea I'm using came from the YW Umph! Volume 2 Idea Book. It
suggests to gather 14 rocks, and on each rock write one of the blessings
we receive through the Priesthood (the list found in the manual). Place
the rocks on a piece of long, brown paper with a line down the middle to
represent a road. During the lesson pick up each rock and talk about the
blessing written on the rock and how
experiencing each one of these blessings in our lives removes one of the
rocks on our road to eternal life.
As a handout there is a tag that says "Don't travel a Rocky Road! Make
it smooth by benefiting from Priesthood Blessings!"....attach the tag to
a Rocky Road candy bar.
