The One Heart Foundation is sponsoring a new project called 'Warming Families'. The purpose of it is to get families and individuals, church groups, seniors centers, prisoners--whoever, involved in sewing, crocheting or knitting blankets for Homeless and Domestic Violence shelters across the US and Canada.

There are Area Coordinators all over and more are being added almost daily. The blankets are mailed to them and they take them to a shelter. Bev wrote to me today and said "We have spread into Scotland now too with an Area Coordinator near Glasgow. :-) The ACs do need to be 18 though, but I think the Laurels could organize it and then get the blankets either to an AC near them, or have someone in their ward take the blankets to a shelter near them. :-)"

It really is a worthwhile project!!!! I was thinking that to get the girls excited, have someone teach them how to crochet "Granny Squares". They are simple and hopefully once they've made one - they'll want to make more - lots more !! :-)

 Three-Round Granny Square

Any hook, usually I or J (depending on finished size of square).

Rnd 1: Ch 5, join with sl st to beg chain; ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2 in ring; (3dc, ch2) three times; join with sl st to beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in beg ch-2 sp, ch l; *in next ch-2 sp (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch l: rep from *three times; 3dc, ch 2 in beg ch-2 sp, join with sl st to beg ch-3.

Rd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in beg ch-2 sp; *ch l, 3dc in next ch-1 sp, ch l, (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next ch-2 sp; rep from *three times; ch l, 3dc in ch-l sp, (3dc, ch 2) in beg ch-2 sp; join with sl st to beg ch-3. Fasten off leaving a 6 inch end.
