scripture study lesson, I used the following:
The blessings that come from scripture study, as given by
Elder L. Lionel Kendrick of the First Quorum of the Seventy:
1. A testimony of the Savior;
2. An increase in spirituality;
3. An ability to solve problems;
4. Motivation to do good;
5. Knowledge of how to live;
6. Relief from stress;
7. Strength in resisting temptations;
8. Promise of eternal life.
I tied this to the scripture in D&C that talks about all
blessings being predicated upon obedience to a commandment. I told the girls that if they
wanted any of these blessings, then they should study their scriptures. I also used
the following quote:
"The scriptures are reservoirs of spiritual water. Just
as water was and is today essential to physical life, just so is the gospel of the Lord
Jesus Christ essential to the spiritual life of God's children. Great reservoirs of
spiritual water, called scriptures, have been provided in this day and have been
safeguarded that all might partake and be spiritually fed, and that they thirst not."
President Harold B. Lee.
I then gave each girl a bottle of water with the quote above
as the label, a little notebook to use as a scripture journal, along with a highlighting
pencil.
