vs. 3 - I love this
verse...especially ...feast upon the words of Christ. Haven't we been told, "you are
what you eat". Do we hunger after the scriptures? Or are we spiritually starving
ourselves and our families each day as we pass by our scriptures and think I'll read them
a little later; we'll have scripture study "tonight" and at the end of the day,
we all go to bed hungry. I liked the title of Sister Parkin's talk at the YW General
Broadcast in l995, "Fat Free Feasting". She quotes the scripture, 2 Nephi 9:5l -
"Let your soul delight in fatness" ...why not gain some spiritual weight?"
Okay, that's the kind of weight I want....I want to be a "heavy weight champion"

Wendy L. Watson taught, "When you
interact with someone repeatedly over time, it changes you. That's why what you watch on
TV or read or see in magazines is so critical. So watch what you watch. Be careful with
whom or what your are interacting. These recurrent interactions change your cells. They
change your soul. They change your countenance." (from the 1998 Women's Conference-
Truman Madsen & Ann Madsen in House of Glory, House of Light, House of Love)
I'm sure you have noticed how often couples
begin to look like one another and act like one another after years of living together.
When I really want to make my husband laugh, I'll quote one of his lines using the same
voice inflections that he would use. Then there are times when things just pop out of my
mouth without my even thinking-something he would say. Thankfully they are not bad things
- just his silly little jokes °Ü°
But isn't it the Savior we want to emulate?
We can only know what and who he is if we study his life, his works, and his words. Then
we can measure up to the question the Savior asks, ""What manner of men ought ye
to be?" and then gives us the answer, "...even as I am" 3 Nephi 27:27
vs. 4 -
if ye cannot understand them
it will be because ye ask not, neither do you knock.....
vs. 5 - ... if ye will enter in by the way,
and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things....
vs. 7 - An now I, Nephi,.....am left to
mourn...for they will not search knowledge, when it is given unto them in plainness, even
as plain as a word can be.
If we don't understand, all we have to do is
ask.
vs. 8 - ....and it grieveth me that I must
speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man
to pray ye would know that ye must pray;.....
Prayer is essential. This is our line of
communication and the adversary is doing everything he can to tie up the lines but
Heavenly Father has additional backup to fortify his plan. Not only does he give us the
scriptures, but he also has given us the gift of the Holy Ghost and prophets to help us
understand. Then instead of being like Old Mother Hubbard who went to the cupboard and
found her poor cupboard was bare, we will feed all of our children, send them to bed, and
still have some left to share. °Ü°
