I have such fondness for the Young
Women Program of this church. I have had many opportunities to work with the
youth, and these have been some of the sweetest moments of my life.
Recently I was asked to write a choral score for a stake as they taught their
leadership about the transition of young women into Relief Society. I spent
much time in prayer preparing to receive inspiration from the Lord on this
subject. As I have served equal years in both the Young Women and Relief
Society programs my eyes were opened to see the struggle from both ends in
helping the girls to make the transition smoother. I really felt the
inspiration from Heavenly Father as he enlightened my mind with great counsel to
assist me in writing this song. I was deeply inspired by the words of Lucy Mack
Smith, "We must cherish one another, watch over one another, comfort one
another, and gain instruction, that we may all sit down in heaven together."
It is my hope this song will touch the hearts of every young woman and woman who
listens to this song. I hope it will lead them to find the sisterhood they so
desire as they move through the adult years of their life. It is my testimony
that as we come unto Christ the transition will be made smoother because we will
realize we have more in common than we may have previously thought.
This song is a choir number designed to be sung by both young woman and Relief
Society woman. My favorite part of the song is the last chorus when both groups
of women combine to sing this message:
Let our love encircle you,
Let us watch over you,
Let us lift up your heart.
Come home,
And find sisters who will testify,
Sisters who will talk of Christ,
And faith will be made strong
In the place where we belong.

I have written music my whole life
and spent some time touring around and doing firesides. This is the first
choral number I have written. In the stake where we performed it we had so many
comments we decided to create sheet music and a CD with a minus track. My goal
is to make it available for as many people as possible through the internet.
We have reserved the site
www.ywtransition.com. (I checked this link 12/6/06
and it is no longer working. If anyone has an updated address, please let
me know. Alice Gifford - YW Connection) If you go there you can see a copy of the CD and
music. By February 18 there will be a sound recording of the music on the
site.
