Sister Silvia H. Allred
General YW Board (Nov 98)

"To receive vision and direction we must effectively work together.
These are the Lord's Young Women, not ours."
Sister Allred

Young Women Leader's Tool Box

  • Scriptures - if we ask our young women to bring their scriptures to class but then never open  them...., "Strength through the scriptures will help them through their daily lives.
  • Leadership Training Video, though the clothes are outdated in the video the advise is still applicable.
  • Copy of General YW Broadcast held in March,  make this an event, a tradition.  The information given at these conferences is just a vital to the YW as the information given at Gen. Conference to the general membership.
  • New Leadership Training Manual. It is principle based, so principles can be applied.
  • Strength of the Youth Pamphlet/Teach Principles, Not Rules (wallet size for each YW).
  • Value Theme Card (wallet size for each YW)
  • Personal Progress Manual
  • Read cover to cover.
  • Use it to plan activity nights.
  • Plan w/a Gospel Purpose-If the activity does not build and strengthen testimonies, it isn't worth having. Don't have an activity just to have an activity.   Our stewardship is to bring the YW closer to Christ.
  • There is a blank page, a tissue of the temple then on the next page a picture of Christ.  Have the YW put a picture of themselves directly on the blank page (back side of front cover) so that when you lay the tissue on that side they can see their picture behind the temple.  The idea is that when they open the book their picture is on the left and on the right they can see Christ through the tissue of the temple.  When they come unto Christ through personal study and guidance of the PP program, they will be prepared to enter into the house of the Lord, thus the temple moved to the left, the girl can see herself in the temple.
  • REREAD about the YW logo, Motto and theme.
  • YW Resource Guide -  this guide was inspired.  Sis. Nadauld took this idea to the Prophet and it was put together in Oct.  The Purpose is to help YW Leaders teach lessons and will enable the church magazines to print stories and information to help reinforce the lessons being taught.
  • We need to use the tools that have been provided and not make up our own.
  • Teach Principles not Rules.

"When you save a YW, you save generations."
(President Gordon B. Hinckley)
