Purpose:Process Improvement, Problem Solving, Communication, Fun

Goal:Establish a throwing order and successfully juggle one or more balls around the group without dropping.

Equipment:Bag of various kinds of balls or soft items for throwing (i.e. koosh balls, rubber chickens, dog toys, etc,)

Safety:Inspect area for overhead obstructions. Inspect ground for obstructions, holes, debris and insects.

Framing:The ball now represents a piece of work (make appropriate to the group's orientation). Just as in the real world, we have more than one task at hand. Keeping this in mind, add more work when the group is ready for additional work.

Activity Ball must begin and end with the same person.

Throwing order must be set across the circle. Passing to the immediate left or fight is not acceptable.

Ball must not hit the ground.

When first round is complete and group is comfortable, introduce more balls.

Balls may be introduced at points other than the starting point.

When ready, move the group into SPEED BALL.

Debrief: . What did the ball represent to your group, i.e. type of work or resources?

  • What happens when the ball gets dropped at work?
  • Can one person have an effect upon the entire group, if so, how?
  • Can your actions affect your group in your natural environment?
  • Clarify the distinction between a group versus a team and have them =
choose which one they represented in this challenge.
  • Have them be specific as to why they chose a group or a team.
