Teaching Responsibility

For Others to Follow °Ü°

Give all girls a piece of candy (gold wrapped, bite-size snickers).  Ask them to do as I do.  Unwrap candy.  Put candy in mouth.  Throw wrapper on the floor.

This candy and it's wrapper is representative of your leadership responsibilities. The candy is the fun part of being a JC-getting up in front of the girls to lead songs, doing skits, sleeping in the lodge, decorating cabins, etc. The wrapper, or keeping the wrapper off the ground, is the hard work part of being a leader-preparing to teach certification and devotionals, carrying through on other committee assignments, being where you should be when you should be there, etc.

If you eat the candy and throw your wrapper on the ground, that is like shirking half of your RESPONSIBILITIES. Now this wrapper is not a dull color that blends in with the carpet or the ground. Your leaders and especially the younger girls will notice if you do not fulfill your responsibilities of being positive, being fully prepared to teach your certification classes, being an example of righteousness.

As leaders everyone watches us…and just as you followed me as I threw my wrapper on the ground, these younger girls will follow you in the good or the bad you do. They will become JC's like you.

This responsibility you are taking on as JC's and leaders to the younger girls does not start the first day of camp. It starts now, not only with preparing for camp but in everyday life. These younger girls watch you at school, church, in your neighborhoods. As they see you making responsible, righteous decisions in you personal lives-how you dress, talk, and act-- they will be more willing to follow you, as their leader, at camp.

I hope that you will take on the full responsibility (enjoying the candy and picking up its wrapper) of becoming a JC-the fun part and the hard work. We, as your leaders, are here to help you become the leaders you want to be.

Handout:  Take on all parts of your leadership RESPONSIBILITY!  (Attach bite-sized snickers.)
