BOARD WORKSHOP - "Stand Ye in Holy Places"
What is a holy place? What does it look like? How does it feel? Where can we find holy
places?
We can stand in holy places...
- AT HOME
- AT CHURCH
- THROUGH PERSONAL CHOICES
- IN TEMPLE PREPARATION
WE STAND IN HOLY PLACES - AT HOME
Hymn #298 - Home Can Be a Heaven on Earth
[verse 1] "Home can be a heaven on earth when we are filled with love, Bringing
happiness and joy, Rich blessings from above - Warmth and kindness, charity, Safety and
security - making home a part of heaven, Where we want to be."
D&C 88:119 - "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a
house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning,
a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."
WE STAND IN HOLY PLACES - AT CHURCH
Hymn #280 - Welcome, Welcome, Sabbath Morning
[verse 3] "Here we bow in meek devotion; here we sing God's holy praise. Here our
hearts, with fond emotion, seek to learn his holy ways. From the books of revelation we
are taught while yet in youth. Words of heavenly inspiration guide us in the path of
truth."
D&C 115:6 - "And that the gathering together upon the land of Zion, and upon her
stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm, and from wrath when it
shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth."
Wards and stakes are not to replace the family - they are a safety net.
Young Women leaders must (1) know and love the young women, (2) be worthy examples to
them, (3) teach truths and testify of them.
Survey in the Salt Lake area (several stakes). Young women were asked what made them feel
loved and included in their wards. The number one answer: "When adults smile at
us!" Don't forget the power of a smile. What would happen if the adult members of the
ward learned the names of the young women - spoke to them - said hello.
We need to help our youth become better acquainted with the hymns. Hymns teach important
principles. Youth feel the Spirit when they listen to or sing hymns. Remember: They are
called hymn NUMBERS - NOT PAGE NUMBERS.
WE STAND IN HOLY PLACES - THROUGH OUR PERSONAL CHOICES
Harold B. Lee: "Holy places has more to do with how one lives than where one lives.
D&C 45:57 - "For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken
the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived - verily I say unto you, they
shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day."
Casual places . can become holy places when young women feel the Spirit.
Elder Ballard: "Some choices only need to be made once. We can help young women learn
to make good choices by teaching them they are daughters of God"
Intervene with love and kindness when you see young women making poor choices. Be bold.

Hymn #247 - We Love Thy House, O God
"We love thy house, O God, Wherein thine honor dwells. The joy of thine abode All
earthly joy excels. It is the house of prayer, Wherein thy servants meet, And thou, O
Lord, art there, Thy chosen flock to greet. We love the word of life, The word that tells
of peace, Of comfort in the strife, Of joys that never cease."
The holiest place on earth to stand - is the Temple. As you plan and prepare for young
women lessons or activities, always ask, "does this assist in preparing young women
for the temple?"
Help young women understand their baptismal covenants. Be certain they know what it means
to always have His Spirit to be with them.
Young women need to understand what it means to stand as a witness at all times, in all
places . even in all prom dresses! Teach principles of modesty, moral purity. Teach the
connection between modesty in dress, language, behavior and moral worthiness.
