WORKSHOP - YW GENERAL BOARD
(Presented by Sisters Hansen, Swim, Beck, Lee): To stake YW leaders: "Please take
these messages and ideas to the wards. You are our only hope. to share these messages with
ward YW leaders."
All sing: "Gather Round the Standard Bearer" - Hymn #258
1st Verse "O Thou Rock of Our Salvation"
YW General Board members filed in carrying large banners of Value colors. They explained
we are in a battle for souls - we must battle for truth and right. Moroni at 25 years of
age was captain of the armies. The Nephites rallied to defend themselves - preserve their
liberty. Moroni raised a standard - title of liberty. What did captain Moroni do after
raising the standard? (Alma 46:12; 19-20, 36). 20
President Hinckley and First Presidency - today's dynamic leaders. They will guide us -
our prophet has raised the standard of the Lord. In a mighty campaign, these standards
have been published to guide us (6 B's).
2nd Verse "O Thou Rock of Our Salvation"
YW General Board member carried in large banner - the center background of the banner was
an outline of the YW logo/torch. At the top of the banner were large letters 'BE'. The 6
B's were listed under the 'BE'.

3rd Verse "O Thou Rock of Our Salvation" - sung slower to a march beat. What is
it we can do? How can we plant the standard raised by our prophet, President Hinckley? We
can incorporate this standard in every Sunday lesson, Personal Progress, Mutual, etc.
Recent study shows youth are most likely to be influenced in informal teaching moments. YW
leaders need to show loving, caring interest in every contact with young women.
Personal Progress Reviews: Make these reviews one-on-one. They should be an opportunity to
listen, not just lecture. Gently lead each young woman to the Lord's standard. Find
examples in the Personal Progress book of Value Experiences that incorporate the 6 B's.
The prophet's words will help young women in Personal Progress.
Use President Hinckley's message in Young Women Sunday lessons. Review the topics
President Hinckley talked about - reinforce those principles. Raise the standard of the
Lord!
The YW General Board provided a demonstration -- they showed a section of the video (Be
Clean) to the young women as part of their Sunday lesson. They asked the audience (young
women) to fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise and during the week write the things
they observe in two columns: (1) Those that support President Hinckley and the Lord and
(2) those that support the world and the adversary.
See "The Lighthouse of the Lord," Thomas S. Monson, Ensign and New Era, Feb.
2001.
President Hinckley concluded his message with a prayer for the youth. Leaders should
follow this example - pray for the youth.
