P.S.S. Plan

by Alice Gifford

Our late Stake President gave this motto to our Stake :
Plan, Simplify, and Be Strong

In response to a question, "How are we also suppose to "get in" all the other activities on Activity night if we are trying to reinforce the Sunday lesson? Aren't we suppose to be working on personal progress, along with combined activities with the YM? In the Church Handbook, it also talks about needing to keep them active with service, physical fitness, and homemaking."

This is a good question!

It takes thoughtful planning to make this work-planning in advance-way in advance. My biggest suggestion would be to plan six months planned in advance. We already know what the lessons are - take the lessons schedule into your class presidency meetings.

If the young women know that a lessons is being taught on the Word of Wisdom, (Good Health Habits) what a great time to do the fruit drinks, exercise, etc. Have a Mormonad Contest Night - Take principles from the lesson and have the youth come up with a Mormonad to fit - then have fruit drinks, skin care - body lotions recipes available to take home, or if you are having a sporting event - take a few minutes to talk about what was taught Sunday re: the Word of Wisdom - why it's important to keep our bodies healthy so we can play to the best of our ability
- For refreshments serve Decadent Brownies - (I used the brownies for an object lesson on Music with my boys on April Fools Day- one of them wouldn't eat the brownies even after he watched us eat them, °Ü°) - Both of these ideas are activities that can be combined YMYW activities.

Homemaking Skills - The lessons are full of ways to implement. Great Way to Involve Parents

Service - Lots of ideas have been posted.

Value Experiences - The lessons are values taught - If you are focusing on the value of Integrity for the month and the lesson for Sunday is Missionary Work - have a missionary night
- Laundry & How To Get Whites Really White
- How To Sew on Button,
- Basic Cooking Skills, etc.
Include a portion of the activity centered around the importance of having integrity in our daily lives. President Hinckley just said, "Let us be a people of honesty and integrity" . We are missionaries every day whether we know it or not. We can either be the obedient missionary or the companion that no one really wants.

Lessons 44, 45, 46 - Money Management - great time to have the activities that have been posted:
-Learning How to Budget,
-Learning How to Write and Balance Bank Statement
-Learning How To Shop (Moms) Have Mother/Daughter teams - who can find the best buys.
-How to Prepare for a Job Interview
-How To Change a Tire (Dads) -

Those are just a few ideas. Serving in the Young Women program can be overwhelming at times, but if we plan, simply, and be strong (our strength can come from this list) and focus on what has been given to us I think it will be easier.

These are just my thoughts - I know that it may not work for every activity night, but we could sure give it a good shot and even if someone gives just a short presentation to reinforce the lesson - I think it would work. °Ü°
