YW LEADERSHIP

We had stickers for each class to put on their suitcases and handouts. We told tell them we were planning a road trip and would take them from room to room on their trip.

1st class (we used a sun sticker)

The room was decorated like a travel agency. We told them this was were we planned where we were going.

Ultimately our goal is to get ourselves and the girls worthy to go to the temple and to eventually return to Heavenly Father.

In this class we discussed and created a mission statement for our group. Then we talked about how we as leaders lay a spiritual foundation and show the way for the other girls to follow. We talked about how we are examples and must build up ourselves spiritually. Main ways: prayer, scriptures, fasting, testimony,

(Encourage to bear testimony often.), and listening to the prompting of the Spirit.

Key words for our mission statement: temple blessings, young women recognition, unity, testimony

2nd class (we used a clock sticker)

Use the clock. Have the alarm ring for a few seconds. After turning it off say: "Our time on earth is ticking away. We don’t know when we’ll be called back to our Heavenly Father. How are we spending our time? Are we making the most of each second, minute, or hour, and day? God’s gift to us is life. What we make of life is our gift to God. Now is the time to set priorities and goals that will help us and our classes to be worthy of His blessings and to give us an opportunity to return to our Heavenly Father."

In this class we discussed planning with a purpose and time management. Each activity should have a goal or purpose. We can have activities with a purpose that are fun!!!! Purposes you can choose from are as follows:

  1. Activities that revolve around one of the values of faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works or integrity.
  2. Activities that help us know we are daughters of our Heavenly Father.
  3. Activities that help us stand as witnesses of God. (This would include missionary work)
  4. Activities that help us to make and keep sacred covenants and enjoy the blessings of the temple. (This would include genealogy, and marriage)
  5. Activities that help us enjoy the scriptures
  6. Activities that help us to become self sufficient.
  7. Activities that help us to be better family members. (This would include things that make us better wives and husbands)
  8. Activities that help us appreciate our pioneer ancestry.
  9. Activities that help us appreciate the atonement and help us to get closer to our Heavenly Father.
  10. Activities that give service to others.

3rd class: (Sticker: Cars)

In this class we checked our cars to see if they were ready to travel. We talked about finding joy in our callings through stewardship deeper than friendship, following through on assignments, commitment, communication with girls, leaders, and with the Bishop.

We also talked about developing friendships with our classes outside the church. (Use car parts to get across these points.)

(Keys: keys of priesthood we work with; battery: source of power through listening to the Holy Spirit; Headlights: our leaders who keep us on track; radio: how we communicate CB radio would be cute, etc.) We talked about class presidencies here.

We broke up into Beehive, Mia Maid, and Laurel groups with their leaders. Each leader talked about agendas, presidency meetings, meeting needs of each girl. Talked about inactives.

4th class (Sticker: Barbie)

We had a Leader fashion show. One leader wearing a tank top (T-shirt with a picture of a tank pinned to the front) and boxer shorts (boxing gloves hanging on waist), one leader wearing a plunging neckline (a plunger hung around her neck) and a mini skirt (Minnie mouse pictures pinned to her skirt), another wearing spaghetti straps (dry spaghetti on her shoulder) and see through skirts (saran wrap wrapped around Her bottom). In this class we talk about dressing modestly. Discussed tattoos, etc.

5th class (Sticker: Stop signs)

Road signs along the way. Here we talked about standards for our youth. "Strength for Youth" pamphlet was discussed.

We used the following: Yield to the Lord's Spirit, Stop with a goodnight kiss, There is only one way to achieve worthiness, No parking, Soft shoulders, etc., are hard to resist. Dress modestly, No Passing Zone, passes are not acceptable, Use caution in selecting media. Men Working, what guys see. Don’t Detour from following the Word of Wisdom, etc.

We discussed that not following this pamphlet is not an option for the leaders. They will be released from their positions if they do not follow it.

6th class (Sticker; mirror)

We reflected about the things we see along the way. Rear view mirror, mirror that makes things look larger or seem closer. Many types of mirror. Then we handed out a mirror to each girl. We asked her to look in the mirror and tell us what type of leader they see in that mirror. "Are you someone who the girls can look up to." Talk about some of the things we talked about during the day. What kind of leader would Christ want to see. I know that each one of them can be that type of leader. We love them and are there to help them along the journey. Challenge the young women to see themselves and others as Christ sees them and to always remember they are daughters of God and are of great worth. "Scripture card:

"Remember the worth of Souls is great in the sight of God. D&C 18:10.
