2004 Palmyra Young Women Mission and Goals (D&C 90:24) "Search
diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work
together for your good":
The Palmyra Young Women’s Organization through searching diligently,
praying always, be believing and in showing discipleship by appreciating
the atoning sacrifice of our Savior even Jesus Christ, will focus on the
three-fold mission of the church by instilling true service activities
and projects that bless the lives of others and bring out gratitude for
the blessing that we enjoy. We will proclaim the gospel through love and
friendship, perfect the saints through Personal Progress experiences and
projects, and redeem the dead in seeking genuine service through
frequent service opportunities within the ward and community.
Goals for the Leaders to Lead and Lift with Love (D&C 12:8) "And no
one shall assist in the work except he shall be humble and full of love,
having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things,
whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care." include:
- Love
- Develop Christ-like love for each and every young women in the
organization through Teaching with Love, Serving with Love, Reaching
Out with Love and Leading with Love.
- Include the active/inactive, converts and visitors in
everything.
- Remember the young women needs by maintain regular
correspondence through postcards birthdays, anniversaries, telling
them we missed them, giving rides, phone calls, written
correspondence such as thank you notes, e-mails or one on one time.
- Putting spotlights and accomplishments in the cumorah press or
in our own young women’s newsletter.
- Friendship
- Recognize their interests and share our interests with the
girls.
- Truly understanding the girls such as hobbies, unique things
about them, future occupations/desires, favorite things.
- Know the girls intimately, their likes/dislikes, travel desires,
etc. by asking questions in a fun way
- Instill friendshipping skills, appreciating differences in
others by our examples as leaders wherever we see them (Church,
Store, etc).
- Personal Progress
- Motivate the organization to grow spiritually
- Teach the girls about womanhood/ motherhood skills/education.
- Tying Personal Progress into our activities and lessons
- Bond with the family’s (daughters, leaders and parents of the
Young Women).
- Encourage the Young women to bring their scriptures every Sunday
and Tuesday along with personal progress books. If they do not have
scriptures or cases to put them in, then we can include them with
the friendship and birthday gifts.
- Be consistent.
- Share experiences through Spotlighting and best practice sharing
in Opening Exercises
- As presidency meet with new members provide extra books for the
parents.
