| Who Serves - Class President is
called by the Bishop. The YW President may make a recommendation to the bishop.
Should be someone who is "exemplary". Permission from parents
should be received before extending the call. The class president then
recommends counselors and a secretary - subject to Bishop's approval. Training -
YW Presidency member over class instructs and advises the class officers. YW Advisor
may assist. Both YW Presidency member and Advisor help the Class officers fulfill
their responsibilities.
Class Officer Responsibilities
- Give an accounting at
Class Presidency Meetings for each member of the class.
- If there are YW not
coming - Know why they don't come
- Know when they were
last contacted.
- Never Give Up
- As a Class
Presidency, pray for the YW in class, take time to show you care, show genuine friendship
- What if there is
someone that doesn't seem to like "you" - Pray Harder
- Increase Class Unity
- Be the leader and example of kindness and friendship to all
- Learn Leadership
Skills - Delegate to class members. Increases ownership of activities
- Live the Gospel
- Be particularly aware
of new members - (recent converts or someone new to ward)
- Make them feel
welcome
Conducting Meetings - Let Not Being
Prepared Be the Exception to the Rule
Laurels conduct on Sundays. Encourage them to prepare their agenda the evening
before and not 5 minutes before meeting.
(Advisor & Presidency member over Laurels should follow-up - again, not 5 minutes
before the meeting)
Mutual
Held Weekly - if you are doing baptisms - let that be your weekly activity and invite
parents to help, if there is a stake activity, that is your weekly activity, etc.
Priests & Laurels alternate conducting opening exercises.
. Opening Hymn
. Prayer
. Scripture
. Thought or short talk (good place to again reinforce Sunday
lesson)
Combined Mutual Activities - Planned by the BYC. Suggest they plan
these as a committee and not by individual classes. Plan w/Purpose - activity should
strengthen and support family.
Class Activities - Planned by the Class Presidency, YW President and Advisor
(Food for thought - this is a joint effort, but notice the order in which they are
listed.)
Guidelines for Activities
- Strengthen
Testimonies & Support Families
- Foster Personal
Growth
- Provide a wholesome
environment
- Create unity and a
sense of belonging
- Based on Values
- Opportunity to apply
principles taught in Sunday Lessons
A Suggestions for Month Schedule
- 1st Week
Individual Class Activity
Work on a specific personal progress goal as a class. A great time to do a class
service project, visit the less-active girls, and reinforce the Sunday lesson on a more
personal basis for class needs.
Focus on those who may be less active when planning activity - how to involve but keeping
with above objectives
- 2nd Week Combined YW
Activity
Planned by Class Presidency - this is where it would be good to rotate class
responsibility i.e. Beehive, Mia Maid, Laurels alternate monthly
Camp Certification - You would be surprised how easy it is to do certification and
reinforce the lessons taught so that all young women can benefit, including the Laurels
who may not be going to camp. Involve them in the instruction and planning of
clinics.
- 3rd Week Combined
YMYW Activity
Activity Planned by the BYC under the direction of the Bishop.
- 4th Week
Individual Class Activity - (Same as Week 1)
