I received this from our Stake leaders and thought you might be able to use it. Especially Presidents. I thought it was great.

A HANDFUL OF UNITED YOUNG WOMEN LEADERS

THE THUMB: The thumb is very useful. Pointed up it signals O.K. or right on. Pointed down, a definite "NO." It may be used to get you a ride. IF you have ever tried to tie a bow without it, you know how important it is to the hand. It gives strength to the other fingers and binds them together just as a strong sister gives strength and binds the young women's board together.

THE FIRST FINGER: The first finger is the pointer. It might be used to fix the blame, but it is more useful to give direction and to point out the good. A good pointer in the leadership group can spread happiness, self-confidence, and the felling of self-worth wherever she goes.

THE TALL MAN: The tall man is in the middle, supported on both sides. It is useful for many things, but it usually requires the aid of another finger. Every woman has certain talents, and abilities that help her to accomplish her assignments and responsibilities as a YW leader. However, genuine success comes when she has support and help from all sides.

THE RING MASTER: The ring master is the finger that has the direct line to the heart. It carries the ring, the symbol of eternal love. Love and unity are essential to the success and happiness of a ward young women's organization.

THE PINKY: The pinky is the last finger, and it keeps the others together. With a string it becomes the reminder that a member of the presidency or an advisor or a specialist may be small in stature or perhaps not have an abundance of the kind of talent that is seen by many; but every sister called can be an important support to others and, by looking up to them, make them want to be a good example. Pinky is always the symbol of gratitude, realizing that she is the result of the leadership of others.

Just as the hand is the expression of the body, reaching out to extend friendship with all fingers united in the warm grasp, so a young women's united ward board can be an effective expression of our Heavenly Father's love reaching out to warmly grasp each other and our young women. If you ever have the feeling that you are not important to the group and to the unity that is so essential, just try doing without one of your fingers for a day.
