Our stake's theme for 2001 is "Be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine" from D&C 38:27. This theme was presented at a special meeting forward and stake leaders at a special meeting Thursday night. Our stake presidency explained the theme and their desire that auxiliaries in our stake emphasize this theme in lessons, programs, events and activities throughout next year. The 2001 General YW Meeting theme, "Let The Holy Spirit Guide," will be used to enhance and supplement our stake's theme. It would be really interesting to know the themes other stakes have selected for next year -- what are your stake's themes?

BE OF GOOD CHEER

When you introduce the theme at New Beginnings on January 2nd (ha! ha!) you could use a "Cheerleader" theme. The leaders could dress up in sweatshirts with something about your ward or theme on them. You could split up the theme "Be of Good Cheer" to be on several people's shirts.

1- Be

2 - of

3 - Good

4 - Cheer (or) C - H - E - E - R on several

  • pom poms (sp?) that have all the YW colors mixed together
  • the values could be written on pennants of the corresponding color
  • use megaphones to introduce the new beehives
  • make up cheers for each YW group (Laurel, MM, Beehive) as you introduce them
  • refreshments could be any type of concession food chili/hot dogs if you're doing dinner, snow cones, popcorn, nachos, cotton candy.

I painted wooden circles white and made them into compasses, but instead of N,S,E,W, I put things like truth, virtue, hope, faith, love, etc. for the arrow to point to. I put this in a three-fold envelope decorated cute with the theme.

We are using the "Let the Holy Spirit Guide" theme this year and found a program outline that went along with that in a book called 10 Terrific Programs for New Beginnings and YW in Excellence.

Everyone comes dressed in PJs and robes and as they enter they will sign in with the receptionist for their appointment, a nurse will take their vital signs and fill out a form and then the doctor will see them.  They will all return to the YW room where we will announce that the doctor has pronounced every single one of them "sick and afflicted" and in need of the healing balm of Christ and the comfort of the Holy Ghost.

The recommended talks are going to be assigned to each class and instead of talks we are going to have them come up with a skit to go along with it (each of the talks is based on a scripture that tells about a time when spirituality was needed). We will encourage them to dress the part.  The YW leaders will dress as the nurses, receptionist & doctor and we are keeping that part a surprise.

We are still thinking about what to do for dessert.  The recommendation is chicken soup and corn muffins but we don't want to get that heavy plus we're having chicken soup before our fireside two days before that!  We are thinking about jello.
