Welcome to our Silent Lesson

Please no talking.

Our purpose in presenting this lesson in this manner is to help you feel the spirit in different ways. You will be reading, writing, listening and watching.

Please come in, find a seat and listen to the song, "Candlelight Carol".

Please wait to turn each page until directed.  Please do not skip ahead.  Thank you.

Have you been listening To the words of this song?

Is it even important to know "how?"  Sometimes we don't have to know exactly How or why something exists.

We just know that they do.

"How do you capture the wind on the water?
How do you count all the stars in the sky?
How can you measure the love of a mother?
Or how can you write down A baby's first cry?"

We Believe!!

Please open your scriptures and turn to Luke 1:1 in the New Testament.

Luke tells us the beautiful story of the birth of Christ. But before he begins, he tells us this; please read Luke 1:1-4

What is Luke saying here?

Why do you think he felt it was important to write, in order, all things, from the very first?

He says he wants, "to set forth those things which are most surely believed." Do you think that everyone at that time believed that the Messiah had been born? Why or Why Not?

Luke wanted to write so that we would, ".know the certainty of those things.  "What are some things you are certain about in your life? What do you believe to be  true?

Luke goes on to tell us of Mary.  Please read Luke 1:26-35

Do you think Mary really understood all that the angel Gabriel told her? Why or Why Not?

And yet what was her response? Read Luke 1:38

When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she would bring forth a son, she did not ask, "why me".   She did not argue. She did not doubt. She did not hesitate. She simply said,  "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word."
Mary believed that it would happen. How can we take Mary's example and make it be a part of our  lives?

When you are finished, please close your scriptures.

Watch now as we go back in time and experience what it might have been like when Jesus was  born.

Show Luke II

So, there in the sheltered warmth of a cave, beneath the limestone hills of Bethlehem, Jesus was born and cradled in a manger.

Jesus--leaving His divine and holy station, leaving all of the glory and majesty to enter the body of a tiny infant.

Please share your feelings of His  birth.

Shepherds were there that holy night.  Please read Luke 2:8-14

And after the angels were gone away, the shepherds went to Bethlehem, ".to see this thing which is come to pass." Luke says they, "came with haste." What does that  make you think?

Do you think the shepherds believed that the Savior had been born before they went to see Him?

Sometimes we have faith to believe things without seeing them. As you have learned  about the principles of the gospel in your life, has there been something that, as you heard it or learned about it you knew it was true right away?

When you are finished, please close your scriptures.

The story Luke shares with us of the birth of Christ is true. Mary believed it would happen. The  shepherds believed that it did happen. Do you believe? Do you show that  you believe?  What are you doing with that belief? Does Christ know that  you believe?
