String Eggs Materials: Heavy gauge balloon Crochet Thread Sugar and water, Scraps of ribbon, lace and edgings

Inflate the balloon to the size you want the finished egg to be. Wind it with the thread, giving it several layers.(You will still be able to see some of the balloon). Tie off the thread, leaving a tail long enough so you can hang the balloon to dry. Make a syrup by dissolving 2 c. of sugar in 1 c. boiling water and boil for 3 min. Cool to room temp. Roll the balloon in the syrup so that the thread is thoroughly soaked. Hang to dry. blot the bottom once every hour for the first 4-5 hours to remove the excess syrup. When the thread is absolutely dry, pop the balloon and remove it. Cut the egg as desired(standing the egg with the wide end down, cut an oval in one side). Trim edge with trims. Fill with Easter grass and ceramic bunnies and some egg candies. For the stand so egg would stay upright. I cut the bottom out of a 1# margarine tub and set the egg in that. These are time consuming, but really cute. Lasted for several years
