years back our YW had an activity for Christmas and it turned out great. I'm not sure how
it would work with YM & YW, I guess it depends on how many you have. But we are going
to do it again this year.
We let the girls think we are going to put together Christmas
Cookie Plates to take to members houses and Christmas Carol. We called ahead and told the
ones we were to carol at to give some excuse why they didn't want us there.
A couple we came up with were, "Oh no not now you guys I'm on
the phone long distance" SLAM.
"Could you go somewhere else to sing, I just put my kids down
for bed" Slam
Another one was "Please not now, I am sooo busy trying to get
my presents wrapped, I just don't have time". Slam.
The girls when we walked away would say, "I can't believe
Sister..... I baby-sit for her!"
Then we went to the bishops house. We told the girls he was going
to have hot chocolate for us, but when we got there he wasn't home. Discouraged we walked
away and I had the bishops garage door opener and when the garage opened we had it set up
like a stable with a manger filled with hay. We played the Forgotten Carols.
This year we are going to have a family with primary aged children
there to act out the Christmas story. We had hot chocolate, and ate the cookies we were
suppose to pass out. Anyway, if you haven't figured it out, it was to help the girls feel
how Mary and Joseph felt when they were turned away. As a matter of fact we call it our
"No room at the Inn" activity. But the girls only know it as the night we go
caroling.

When we did it- we promoted it as a progressive dinner. The first
house for appetizer's no one was home. The second house (for salads) we
had timed so the host was just driving up as we arrived and "wasn't
ready." She said to go on to the third house (manger scene) and she
would bring the food there. At that house we had blankets on the floor
for them to sit on in the garage. We read the Christmas story from the
scriptures and sang a few Christmas carols. We served soup, salad and
rolls and a dessert. The kids had a great time.
PS I would maybe have a few short uplifting Christmas stories and/or
hand out a candy cane with the related symbolism story with it or
some other simple gift regarding Christmas symbolism.
