Homemade Christmas Ornaments

I've seen some really cute ornaments where they used rub-on decals with clear bulbs. The rub-on's come in a wide variety and are easy to do. The best part is there is virtually no mess. I've also seen cute snowman ornaments made of Styrofoam balls and they used stick on eyes and cut items out of felt for scarf's, noses etc.

Each year for the 12 days of Christmas our girls decorate the glass clear ornaments with puffy paint. Its fun and easy. The hardest part is tying the string to them so they will hang to dry. Good luck, have fun.

You can mix equal parts applesauce and cinnamon to make a dough then cut out with cookie cutters or roll into shapes, dry and decorate as you wish. They take a while to dry but smell wonderful. I did this last year with my cub scouts and they loved it.   (Also http://www.ywconnection.com/Holiday/pageHchristmascinnamonapple.html )

A ward I used to be in made beautiful dove ornaments from a paper mold. They used a toilet tissue recipe for the paper instead of the expensive paper made for the molds. I've had mine for 3 years, have used them every year & they are still in good shape.

We made really fun (and cheap) ornaments with our YW a couple years ago from a Martha Stewart idea using old Christmas cards. Here is the link to the directions on her site:  http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?

I use a 1.5" circle paper punch and that saves a lot of time - you can get them at scrapbook stores.

Also

We have made ornaments from toothpick-like sticks (obtained from the craft store). then we made them into snowflake ornaments --- * this star type idea; painted them white and while the paint was white, we sprinkled sparkly dust on them....
